My talk at RAMIRAN 2023 on the logistics of nutrient recovery from urban organic matter (well, mostly urine in this case).
In a few words, for most cities below a few million inhabitants, it is most probably fine to work directly with raw urine (without any transformation or concentration process).
Indeed the distances it will travel to reach the agricultural parcels will be much less than 50 km, which is our lowest estimate as to when moving urine around starts to emit more GHGs that the current system combining Haber-Bosch fertilizer production and waste management via wastewater treatment plants.
However, the storage requirements during winter or the farmers may still require urine processing even though it is not an environmental requirement.
