Toast Ale are brewing quality beers by using surplus bread to replace virgin barley thereby helping the planet and people by reducing the demand for land, water and energy, and avoiding emissions.

One of the most frequently wasted foodstuffs is bread. As a relatively cheap product with a short shelf life, bread is chucked out at an astonishing rate, as supermarket surplus as well as in the home. Did you know that discarded bread can be used to replace a third of the malted grain used in beer brewing? Toast have hit upon a business model that could help this practice scale around the world. By actively sharing the recipe for their pale ale, the startup provides the basis for replication by other breweries in collaboration with Toast, adapting to local bread available and brewing traditions.

ReTuna is the first shopping mall in the world to be entirely devoted to second-hand goods. A title that earned it a place in the Guinness Book of Records in 2020! They are revolutionizing shopping in a climate-smart way. Old items are given new life through repair and upcycling. Everything sold is recycled or reused or has been organically or sustainably produced.

Our guest Shashank Nimkar (https://www.linkedin.com/in/ssnimkar/), founder of Earth Tatva (https://www.earthtatva.com/) is trying to solve the problem of hundreds of tons of post-industrial ceramic rejects that occupy our landfills each year. Archaeology has shown us how ceramics stay put and take years and years to biodegrade, therefore causing a menace to both natural & industrial ecosystem.

Earth Tatva's solution reduces mining for raw materials, for ceramic manufacturing by 60 % . Their technology recycles fired ceramic waste, under a closed loop, zero waste, manufacturing process.

Shashank says that their product is 35% stronger and highly energy efficient when compared to industrially manufactured ceramics.
