Every month or so, we pause from our normal sermon series to examine work. Work is essential to the Christian walk and a place where we get to exercise our giftings in shaping the world. Each of these Sundays, a few of our members are interviewed about how they experience work.

It comes as no surprise that our human relationships are bound to fracture – whether we have wronged others or been wronged. Jesus enters into that broken reality, teaching us that the path through it into life and healing is found in the hard, but necessary task of reconciliation. Listen as Dave challenges us to make amends in a culture prone to estrangement.

Of the Ten Commandments, “you shall not murder” may appear to be easiest to obey. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus dismantles our false assurance by tying murder closely with anger – something every human struggles with at some level. Listen as Dave shares how destructive and pervasive anger truly is and invites us towards a righteous zeal for life.

As long as there have been followers of Christ, there has also been a question about Jesus’ (and our own) relationship to the Old Testament laws. Yet, Jesus remains insistent that He did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. Listen as Dave shares how the commands of God are for our restoration and flourishing.

When we live as salt and light, living according to the ‘blesséd’ life and upside down kingdom values of the Beatitudes, we have the capacity to make a difference in the contexts we inhabit. Yet, this call does not come without a promise of challenge from the world’s power structures. Listen as Dave unpacks what it means when Jesus calls His followers “salt” and “light”.

Jesus begins His teachings by sharing about where the truly happy (“blesséd”) life is found – not in chasing more happiness, but in looking to its source. Listen in as Dave teaches us about Jesus’ subversive opener to the Sermon on the Mount, which reframes our expectations about joy and the Christian life.
