In our sixth Advent sermon in Isaiah, Pastor Dave considers the Oracles to the Nations. Why are they important? The prophet is reminding us that, although we are vulnerable, God is King. And although we are sinners, God will redeem.

In our fourth Advent sermon, Pastor Dave preaches from Isaiah 22 about Jesus as the Key of David. Through disappointment, we've wisely learned to expect failure in our leaders. Deep down, though, we all yearn for a perfect leader -- one person who can unlock our dreams, free us from prisons, and open our eyes. Jesus is that leader.

Isaiah 11 promises that “there shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.” CJ reminds us of the good news of Christ, who is both the root and shoot of eternal life from the burned out stump of God's people.

We don't just need a Savior who is wise. We need a Savior who is powerful. But what does it mean to invite God's power? What does it mean to call Jesus our "Lord"?

In the first sermon of our Advent series in Isaiah, Dave preaches from Isaiah 11. God promises a beleaguered people a savior who is wise.

In Hebrews 13, the author gives his final charge to the church. How will they hold fast to Jesus until the end? How will they be resurrected with Christ? By dying to themselves. The author outlines five areas for self-denial: love, purity, contentment, worship, and submission.

In Hebrews 12:12-29, the writer tells us we have to choose between two different paths, the path back to Mount Sinai, or the path forward to Mount Zion. His exhortation is to discipline ourselves through the power of The Spirit in order to remain headed for Zion. Sinai is full of fear and religious duty. Zion is a path to freedom and true mediation from Jesus.

What are we to make of Christian suffering? If Christ has saved us, then why do we still suffer? Hebrews 12 does not deny our pain, but it does recast it. For those in Christ, pain is not punishment. In fact, because of Jesus, every pain now comes with a promise.

The rewards of following Jesus come to those who endure to the end. But how can we endure? We endure the race by remembering witnesses, removing burdens, and keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus.
