From the Series “The Apostles’ Creed.” The Holy Spirit is not merely a theological concept but rather the third person of the Trinity, coequal with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit cannot be controlled or manipulated by humans but can be personally known and related to. As a divine person, the Holy Spirit is actively present and involved in the lives of those who follow Jesus. He guides us into the fullness of truth, convicts us of sin, empowers us to live according to the teachings of Jesus, and assists us in prayer. Therefore, the Holy Spirit is not a mere doctrine or abstract idea but a living and dynamic reality in the life of every follower of Jesus.
From the Series “The Apostles’ Creed.” Returning to the first line of the Creed, God, our Father, is the Creator of Heaven and earth. As sons and daughters, we cannot escape the imprint of our Genesis. So what does it mean as unique individuals to be created in God’s image? There are many of us because there is much of Him. From the Series “The Apostles’ Creed.” The resurrection is the remarkable counter-story that challenges the narratives we tell others and ourselves about what is possible and what is not.
From the Series “The Apostles’ Creed.” The Creed makes a staggering leap from Jesus’ birth to His crucifixion. Why does the Creed ignore Jesus’ ministry and teachings … or does it? Also, what is the significance of naming Pontius Pilate, an antagonist in the Christian story, in the Creed? These questions help us better understand God’s perspective on suffering, which is drastically different – and more praiseworthy – than any other religious or philosophical concept of suffering.
From the Series “The Apostles’ Creed.” The virgin conception is one of the most challenging concepts for the modern mind. Yet it is no more unbelievable to us than to those living in the first century. Incarnation means ‘being in flesh.’ It is a core belief of the global church: God became man. It’s also a chronicle, real history documented by people who lived and walked with Jesus. In the incarnation, God is inviting us to wonder at the great lengths he would go to be in relationship with his creation, and this is very good news.
