'Wolf Trax' by Chris Cardinal

Over the past year, CiTR had the pleasure of working with two practicum students from UBC's First Nation and Indigenous Studies Program. Each student spent many hours researching, writing, editing and producing a podcast series, and today we have the pleasure of sharing them with our listeners as part of our National Aboriginal Day broadcast.

Up first is "Wolf Trax" a three-episode series produced by Chris Cardinal. The series looks at how formal Indigenous education can play a role in improving the relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in Canada.

105 Keefer St -- an empty lot in Vancouver Chinatown that has gained much attention from the public in recent years. This site is located in the heart of Chinatown, adjacent to significant landmarks such as the Chinatown Memorial Monument and the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden. But this site is under the threat of development. For Asian Heritage Month 2017, this special broadcast dives into the significance of 105 Keefer St to the Chinese-Canadian community and their fight against corporate profit for Chinatown to thrive.

‘(Dis)ability Justice’ a recording of a panel discussion created through collaboration by CiTR’s Accessibility Collective All Access Pass and The F-Word Conference 2017 at UBC. This panel features speakers Lynx Sainte-Marie and representatives from Barrier-Free BC, Rob and Reed: challenging notions of disability and policy for the greater public.

“Breaking the Barrier: Highlighting different abilities in the employment world” is a radio documentary by Deepi Leihl and Estephania Solis. The documentary seeks to bring awareness to the reality of employment when focused on folks with different abilities, the challenges to change this norm, what employment services are available for Divers-Abilities and more.

Access Day 2017 kicks off with a performance by Digger Dan, a singer- songwriter with an expanding list of covers. Proudly supported by Vancouver Adapted Music Society (VAMS) (vams.org). The live performance is followed by an interview with Digger Dan and members of CiTR's Accessibility Committee.
