ποΈ New Series Alert: Rise and Build β Week 1
What if prayer wasn't our last resort, but our first response?
In Nehemiah 1, we meet a man who receives devastating news β the walls of Jerusalem are broken down, the gates burned, and the people are in disgrace. And yet, before Nehemiah picks up a single tool, before he drafts a single plan, he does something countercultural: he prays.
"When I heard these words, I sat and wept. I mourned for a number of days, fasting and praying before the God of the heavens." β Nehemiah 1:4
We live in a world that tells us to plan first and pray later β or not at all. We turn to people, podcasts, and search engines before we turn to God. We build self-reliant plans, and then wonder why the same broken walls keep standing.
But Nehemiah shows us a different way. His prayer follows a powerful pattern:
Β β
Adoration β Recognizing who God isΒ
Β β
Admitting β Confessing where we've fallen shortΒ
Β β
Asking β Surrendering our needs to Him
And here's the big idea that anchors this entire series:
Prayer isn't about getting God to align with our plans. It's about us aligning with His.
As Corrie Ten Boom once said, "The devil smiles when we make plans... but he trembles when we pray."
What walls are broken in your life right now? Before the next plan is made, what would it look like to pray first?
