The average reader would conclude that John completed his book with the dramatic testimony of Thomas and John 20:28–31, and someone wonder why John added another chapter. The main reason is the apostle Peter, John’s close associate in ministry. John did not want to end his gospel without telling his readers that Peter was restored to his apostleship.

The 10 disciples were changed from fear to courage, and Thomas was change from unbelief to confidence. Now, John invite you to trust Jesus Christ and be changed from death to eternal life. If you’ve already made this life-changing decision, give thanks to God for the precious gift of eternal life.

If the gospel of John were an ordinary biography, there would be no chapter 20. As almost all biographies conclude with the death and burial of the subject. You would never read a biography that described the resurrection from the dead. The fact that John continued his account and share the excitement of the resurrection miracle is proof that Jesus Christ is not like any other man. He is, indeed, the son of God.

When they heard, “it is finished! Father, into the hands I commend my spirit!“ They knew that he was dead, and they went to work. They boldly identified with Jesus Christ at a time when he seemed like a failure and his cars hopelessly defeated. The Sabbath was about to dawn. Jesus had finished the work of the “New creation”. Two Corinthians 5:17, and now he would rest.

Long before the Jewish leaders had Jesus arrested in the garden, they had determined to kill him; John 11:47 – 54.

The mob was guilty of rejecting the son of God and treating him as though he were the lowest kind of criminal. But Jesus was gracious. Like King David, he cross the Kidron, fully conscious that Judas was betraying him. He went into the garden of Gethsemane surrendered to the fathers will.

Christian love must not be blind! As you review this prayer, you see the spiritual priorities that were in the saviors heart: the glory of God; the same city of God‘s people; the unity of the church; the ministry of sharing the gospel with the lost world. We today would be wise to focus on these same priorities. One day, each of us will have to give an account of his or her ministry.

The principle is simply this: God brings joy to our lives, not by substitution, but by transformation. The illustrations in this chapter are overwhelmingly encouraging. Be blessed

It is essential that we see that the work of the spirit of God is never divorced from Jesus Christ or the word of God. People who claim that the Spirit of God led them to do things contrary to the example of Christ or the teaching of the word are mistaken and are being led astray by Satan. Where the Holy Spirit is at work, there must be truth.

There is a future vine, “D’Vine of the Earth” described in revelations 14:14 - 20. This is the Gentile world system ripening for God’s judgment. Believers are branches in “divine of heaven,” but the end saved our branches in “the vine of the earth.” The “Vine of the Earth” will be cut down and destroyed when Jesus Christ returns.
