Many people believe that evolutionary science undermines important aspects of the Christian faith. Science, it is claimed, has explained God away, and belief in the Bible is incompatible with modern understanding. In this talk, we’ll take hold of those thorny questions that cause scientists to dismiss the Bible and see why many people see no conflict between Christianity and Darwin’s revolutionary theory.

Matt is a PhD student in the Divinity Faculty at the University of Cambridge. His thesis considers the implications of evolutionary theory for the Christian understanding of the soul and its creation. He’s also an associate lecturer at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. He didn’t grow up as a Christian and had very little interest in science until his conversion during university. He hadn’t expected that becoming a believer would spark a personal intellectual revolution, but it did, and since then, he has been known to get very excited about general relativity, mycorrhizal networks, and cultural evolution.
