In Galatians 3:1-14, Paul presses the Galatian church on where they are in their relationship to Jesus. They had slipped back into legalism, forgetting the amazing work of salvation they had experienced. They were focused on 'works' instead of 'faith' in their ministry. They had to be taught that legalism kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Paul details how he has been very careful "to be sure [he] was not running and had not been running [his] race in vain." In Galatians 2:11-21, Paul encourages the church to avoid the practice of seeking the approval of men rather than God. The underlying tension was based in attitudes of racial, ethnic and cultural superiority, a plague which still exists today.

Paul needed to properly address the Galatians, so he took the time to remind them of who he was and how Christ changed him and equipped him for the ministry. Paul's testimony reminds us that: 1) No sin is so great that Jesus can't forgive it; 2) No sinner is so far gone that Jesus can't save them; and 3) no shame is so strong that Jesus won't take it.

In this new sermon series, we learn that Apostle Paul addressed the Galatians who were no longer teaching and practicing the gospel that they had been taught. Paul was "astonished" that, so soon after the Church in Galatia had been established, they were embracing a perverted gospel inconsistent with Christ's teaching.
