One of our favorite questions to ask when folks gather around City Church is: what version of you is showing up today? Sometimes people answer happy, energized, focused, grateful. And sometimes people answer sad, discouraged, exhausted, anxious. Is there room in the life of faith for all of ourselves, for the broken or tired parts as well as the strong and beautiful? Come explore with us this Sunday as we look at Jesus's words of blessing for the poor in spirit.

Therapists teach that those who avoid their grief inevitably shut down other emotions as well. Those who grieve expand their hearts in so many ways, connecting with themselves, increasing their own capacity for healthy relationships, and being in touch with Jesus who was known as “a man of sorrows.”
