Romans 7:1-6 tells us the unbeliever is bound to the Law so the consequence of sin is eternal death, yet Christ died to fulfill the consequence of the Law on behalf of all who may believe this. God frees the believer from the Law, joining us to another, the Lord Jesus Christ, and empowers us to serve God in the power of the Holy Spirit. Riley teaches us that loving one another faithfully will leave three marks on the church body. The church will unify together to one Lord who holds our eternal destinies safely in the hands of a holy God. The church will deliver the ministry of reconciliation to God and become credible ambassadors of the Gospel to the world.

Pastor Chris shares three roles the believer has in actively building up one another through small groups this ministry year. After two months in the book of Exodus, we arrive at the final stretch where God reveals Himself to Israel in greater depth, gives His people the Law, and promises to dwell among them. Through chapters 16-40 we see a God who is both perfectly just and abundantly merciful, unwilling to leave the guilty unpunished yet eager to renew His covenant with His people. Coming just three days after the triumphant crossing of the Red Sea, Exodus 15:22-27 shows Israel’s grumbling turned to grace as bitter water becomes sweet and their journey leads them to rest at Elim. In this passage, God reveals four foundational truths to Israel for the first time: He is the Lord who answers prayer, the Lord who speaks, the Lord who heals, and the Lord who gives generously. In Exodus 14, Israel is trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea, with nothing to do but watch as the Lord fights on their behalf.
