The death of Jesus on the cross remains one of the most profound moments of human history. For many bystanders it was a senseless death by a powerless man. Only later do we realize the magnitude of the cross to overturn the curse, restore us to God and renew all that is broken in this world.

During our darkest moments we might find our faith fails us. Peter demonstrates a life that fails, falters but ultimately stumbles towards Jesus. We see in Jesus’ forgiveness the power of grace, infinite love and ultimate security.

How do you handle the “dark nights of the soul”? Jesus teaches us how we can faithfully handle our seasons of distress. Jesus is not only our model but our victor who gives us an eternal hope.

What does greatness really mean? Is greatness achieved by success, wealth, or popular acclaim? Jesus shows us that spiritual greatness comes through humility and sacrificial service. Jesus tells us that “little things” and “little ones” are the greatest in His kingdom.

God often calls us into uncomfortable places where we need to walk by faith. Jesus is constantly calling his disciples to a faith that conquers fear. Faith ultimately rests in the power and presence of our King.

Jesus doesn’t only call his disciples to believe but also assist him in furthering the Kingdom. Followers of Jesus are called to testify by their words and their actions. Jesus reassures his disciples of his presence, power and reward.

Following Jesus can be one of the greatest adventures you can embark on. But Jesus cautions any potential followers about the cost of following him. Jesus shows us that following him requires ultimate faith in an ultimate King.

There are a lot of voices that are constantly calling for our attention: our smartphones, our jobs, our children, and other responsibilities. But above all voices, Jesus calls his people to first follow him. Jesus calls the least likely people to make the biggest possible impact in his kingdom.

The Gospel is the Good News not for the proud and self-sufficient but for the broken and weak.

The Sabbath was designed not only as a day off but ultimately a day that looked forward to an enteral day of rest. The Sabbath is a foretaste of an ultimate healing and peace that heaven brings. We are to make sure that we don’t miss this final hope that will heal our weary souls.
