The ashes on our forehead remind us that we are marked by death, but the cross on our forehead reminds us that we are marked by our Savior. His death means that when we return to the Lord, we are met with his love and forgiveness.

We were joined this morning by guest preacher and worship leaders Scott and Marissa Cunningham.

Scott teaches on our need to see the face of Jesus in order to be transformed—to see the layers of the world peeled back and to peer into Jesus' glory. This changes ordinary experiences of the Bible, Communion, and Church into extraordinary, life-changing encounters with the presence of Jesus.

Paul teaches us what the family of God is like—we're a loving family. In a world filled with fake love, Paul describes the true love that the Father has lavished upon us, that he sent his son Jesus to make us sons and daughters.

Every member of the family of God has a mother and a mission. With God as our Father, he gives us the church as our Mother. The church births us, nourishes us, and raises us to be members of the family of God and play our part in the mission of God.

God gives us marriage as a symbol of his desire to have communion with us. As Jesus turns the water into wine at the wedding of Cana, he points forward to the great wedding feast of the lamb to come.

It matters who your father is, and whether your earthly father has been great or not so great, your heavenly father wants to bring you into his family through baptism so that he can pour his favor on you as his adopted son or daughter.

Pastor Matt Woodley of Church of the Resurrection joins us for Epiphany Sunday and begins our year by preaching on one of City of Light's key passages, Isaiah 60.

God calls us at this time and in this place to shine his light to the world.

Our hearts are covered in darkness, but Jesus comes to be the light. These candles remind us that we can receive the light of Jesus this Christmas.

In Acts 2:42-47, Luke paints a vidid portrait of the life of the church. Bishop Stewart describes 5 marks of that life: Fully Scriptural, Fully Sacramental, Full of the Spirit, Freely Sharing, and the Fullness of Salvation.

John the Baptist calls us to prepare a highway for the Lord to come, but there are obstacles in the way: treacherous mountains, jagged valleys, and crooked paths. How do we overcome them?

We can't, but Jesus did. The only way way we can prepare is through repentance. The Lord is coming. Repentance invites him in.
