One day the kingdom of God will be fully realized. It will again be physical and the manifest presence of God will be there. The wrongs and injustices of the world will be made right.

God is at work reestablishing his rule and reign in the world through his people Israel. They fail as the manifestation of his kingdom. God's final move is to send Jesus. In the person of Jesus, the kingdom is present. The kingdom is now and not yet.

You knew it was coming. Of course, we will tell you how to vote -- vote early and often.

God's story continues with what we call "the Fall." In kingdom terms that means there is treason among the subjects. God's reign is rejected for self-rule. All subsequent human kingdoms have some elements both of the ruling initiated in the creation and the brokenness that results from the fall.

God's story begins with creation. God established himself as king. His subjects and vice-regents, humans in his image, ruled with him. The kingdom was a physical kingdom and it was good!

The founders edited out key Christian doctrine from any founding documents. They had a religious impulse, but it wasn’t Christian. The Great Awakening proved to be an interesting period in the life of our country. So much that was good came from it. So much bad was tolerated. The Civil War found both sides claiming God was on their side. Both can't be right.

This period was one of established religion with the church and state being in bed together in many, many instances.

An atheistic enemy in the Cold War, along with a galvanized response to Roe v. Wade, combined with the ascendancy of the Moral Majority made some think this is how Evangelicals should engage the political sphere.

It is easy for Christians to be nostalgic for the good old days. The days of Roe v. Wade, the Moral majority, Reagan, and the Cold Ward weren't the good old days.

It became obvious to me that the American church was ready and willing to compromise values and authority around character and morality if it meant there was a potential for a win against the unpopular candidacy of Hillary Clinton.
