Isaiah's pictures of promise develop most clearly into the image of the suffering servant, who brings forgiveness for sins and salvation for God's people.

Isaiah's message is that war is a product of idolatry; humans declaring war on God. He will bring peace as he brings people out of exile and into life with him through his promised servant.

As Judah prepares to return from exile the question remains who will they put their hope in — the Living God or idols. God will reveal himself, and provide a template for humanity in his promised Servant King.

Isaiah promises that exile will end when a king reigns and God's Spirit is poured out.

Israel and Judah face judgment for forgetting God; he is clearing the ground to create a fruitful people who will remember him.

Isaiah promises a day of the Lord when God will bring down violent nations to provide shelter and shade for his people.

God promises to clear the ground for the branch of Jesse — a prince of peace who will lead his people home to him.

Isaiah calls God's people to fear God not the violent gods of the nation and fruitfully live as his people in the world.

Isaiah describes people looking for security and shelter amongst sacred groves and powerful trees. Where we choose will determine our destiny. God offers shelter through his branch, the Suffering Servant.

Living as citizens of heaven who find our unity by being attuned to Jesus by his Spirit.
