Psalm 23 is a psalm where David is talking to God with trust. David is using imagery that is very familiar to him. When we first encounter David in the Bible as a young man, in 1 Samuel 16, he is keeping the sheep. As a shepherd, David knows what it means to care for the sheep and he is able to draw from his experiences as a shepherd to understand the many ways that God is caring for him.

In this passage, we see the different ways we often react when life takes the unexpected turns. We also explore the God who guides are every step in life.

Psalm 63 is about longing. Deep longing. This is a psalm of David, and like many of David’s psalms, it comes from a dark time in his life where he is expressing this longing to be satisfied.

We all have guilt for things we have done, or things we have left undone. Sometimes that guilt is so overwhelming that it feels like we are drowning. This psalm of ascent points to how we can know real freedom from the guilt that overwhelms us.

When we are overwhelmed with fear, we cling to things that will give us assurance. In Psalm 27, David shows that God’s presence is what he needs to confront his fears.
