In this week's sermon we look at how Jesus finds the smallest (and probably shortest) man in all of Jericho. Zacchaeus is known to be short but this story isn't about his physical height but his small social standing. Somehow Jesus was able to find the loneliest person in Jericho and when he invited himself over for a meal repentance came to this small man's life.

The original plan was to continue part 1 from last week but Pastor Pedro changed things up. Instead, this week we take an honest look at life to be remembered that it is fragile and that God's invitation is offered to all. God's economy is fundamentally built on generosity and it is through God's generosity that anyone can be saved. Each Table that Jesus sits at is an act of generosity, let us see how.

In this week's sermon we look at how God's Kingdom is built on Generosity and how it utterly conflicts with our world's economy of Scarcity and Poverty. Somehow God is able to provide for all because everything that He does is an act of generosity that we cannot fully explain. You don't have to be scared of God's ability to provide, He can do it. You don't have to always provide for yourself, He will care for you. You don't have to fight for whats yours, He already has it. God can and will provide!

In this week's sermon we see an awkward meal between Jesus and the Pharisees. The Pharisees once again demonstrate that they do not care to know God and they receive a few Woes from Jesus. They have built so many walls around God's holiness that they have no idea how to get back to Him. They are unmarked graves pointing people towards death even though they look so good from the outside. Let us see what the Bible says is the cure against being like the Pharisees.

This week, we take a closer look at one of the more famous meals in Scripture - the feeding of the 5,000. From the story of this meal in Luke’s Gospel, Pastor Pedro extracts 4 practical lessons that ultimately culminate in Jesus being always enough for those who call Him Lord.

This week, we turn our attention to one of Jesus’s face to face encounters with someone who knew they were broken. In Luke 7, Jesus accepts a pharisee’s invitation to feast with those who would later kill Him. But when an unnamed, uninvited woman interrupts the meal, we witness one of Jesus’s most beautiful teachable moments. Though most would have averted their eyes from someone so undignified, with one loving gaze, Jesus restores this woman’s dignity, forgives her sin, and sends her off in peace, all while serving the others around the table their “just deserts”. Humble pie, anyone?

This week's sermon continues our Open Table series by taking a closer look at Jesus’s first meal in Luke. After He publicly calls a Tax Collector to follow Him and that Tax Collector actually says “Yes”, we question whether Jesus called the “wrong one”. When Jesus then attends a whole feast with other "wrong ones”, is it all that surprising that the “religious” are repulsed by this? Pastor Pedro illuminates which people around this particular table Jesus knew were in need of a doctor. Hint: it’s not the ”healthy”.

This week, Pastor Pedro introduces CityLife's overarching themes for 2022: Invitation, Disciple Making and Deeper Life, and our first sermon series of the year entitled, Open Table. In this series, we will look at Luke’s unique account of Jesus’s meals, who He ate with, what was discussed, and how people treated Him. Perhaps most importantly, we look at who left the table satisfied.

This week’s sermon compares the stories of two men - Adam and Jesus, called the Second Adam - and the two trees they left as legacies. We explore how Scripture compares and contrasts how Adam changed the course of human history and then how Jesus reverses it. Pastor Pedro teaches that though Adam’s experience with a certain tree may have given us the knowledge of good and evil, Jesus’s Cross reconnects us to the Tree of Life.

We begin 2022 by taking an honest look at ourselves and find we are no different than the people in the story of Babel. Though we proudly believe otherwise, humanity's condition is remarkably unchanged since the Genesis 11 story. Don’t we still strive for the same self-made importance and security and try build up our own names? Let’s rediscover how the way of Jesus enables us to understand one another again.
