First, is there a glimmer of unity among national Democrats? All Senate Democrats- Fetterman with some nudging- signed on to a one sentence resolution denouncing President Trump's pardons for those who violently assaulted Capitol Police on January 6th, 2021. Not much, but it's a bit of unity.

However, our main focus for the day is- big surprise here- what lessons we can apply from FDR to today's political and economic world. Harvey's been ruminating on FDR's call for 'militant liberalism' lately, so we break it down. Turns out it's not about making us adhere to strict uniform codes or schedules, it's about enabling and empowering the common people. That sounds nice, can we have more of that please?

Happy days, y'all. It's a Monday and we're diving right into it all. Despair can leave us frozen. So let's focus on what we CAN control, eh?

This past week, many local Wisconsin communities' law enforcement agencies declared they would not participate in deportation efforts from the federal government. In response, Republicans in Wisconsin's legislature announced they will introduce a bill to force such cooperation. Dom and Jess strongly prefer that our local law enforcement instead focus on y'know, local law enforcement issues. So what can we do? We can call our elected officials and tell them what their constituents actually want.

Today is also International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This day marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, now 80 years ago. In a world where the man who controls the most resources and a powerful communciation platform performs a Nazi salute multiple times at a Presidential inauguration, we must bear witness and remember. When that same man then declares that Germany should 'move beyond' their guilt over the atrocities of the Holocaust, stand up and resist. Always. It's within your control.

Former Green bay Mayor, Jim Schmitt is joined by Chris Bivins Associate Director Program development for Center of Suicide Awareness. Chris talks about how her text line (Hopeline) was created in Kaukauna, WI.

Chris and Jim talk about relationship issues, between Families, Friends, Co workers.  It's the elephant in the room, we are Midwest nice we don't talk about the dark. Chris shares how you can get help, through texting in to her helpline or talking a trusted person.

In alarming news, the 47th President's Justice Department ordered a freeze on ALL civil rights cases currently in progress. DoJ officials may not file any new civil rights briefs, complaints, or court papers "until further notice." Also alarming, United States citizens have already been caught up in ICE sweeps seeking undocumented immigrants. In Arizona, members of the Navajo Nation reportedly have been detained. In New Jersey, the mayor of Newark reports that US citizens, including a military veteran, have been questioned and detained. The worst part of this is that those unlawfully detained would file their complaints through the Civil Rights office of the DoJ. Which, as a reminder, has been told to freeze all cases and not open any new ones.

Stay vigilant out there. Know your rights. Stand up for yourself and those around you.

We begin by checking in on the firing of Milwaukee meteorologist Sam Kuffel for her privately shared opinions. Sam, like so many of us, noted with disgust and horror Elon Musk performing a Nazi salute– multiple times!– at the inauguration. And she did exactly what we hope anyone would do. She called it out and denounced it in the strongest terms. Next, we turn to the matter of birthright citizenship. On the first day of his second term, President Trump (wow that's painful to write) issued an Executive Order seeking to strip citizenship from some born in the United States in direct violation of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. Immediately, many states, organizations, and individuals stood up and pushed back. Seattle federal attorney John C. Coughenour decried the move as "blatantly unconstitutional" as he set a temporary hold on the order. It's an example of what we need to do: push back.
