Premiers Scott Moe, Blaine Higgs, and Doug Ford have signed a memorandum committing to collaborate on nuclear power, particularly the development and deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs). Norman Sawyer is president/CEO of ARC Nuclear Canada Inc., a New Brunswick based company aiming to commercialize SMR technology to provide safe, reliable, economically-competitive and carbon-free energy in Canada. Sawyer was in attendance as Blaine Higgs, Scott Moe, and Doug Ford agreed to work together on the technology, and he joins Gormley to discuss SMRs, their benefits over fossil fuels, and why three premiers think SMRs are the future of their power generation.
While Premier Moe joined Premiers Blaine Higgs and Doug Ford in signing an MOU to develop and deploy nuclear power across their provinces, not everyone is happy about the decision. While many experts tout the environmental benefits of nuclear power, others say the technology is filled with pitfalls and isn't a viable solution to climate change. Patrick Moore is an environmental scientist, activist, and co-founder of Greenpeace, and he joins Gormley to discuss the environmental impact of nuclear power and whether it's a good way forward when it comes to climate change.
