A small Saskatchewan newspaper is looking for a new owner to take over operations when their current owner retires at the end of the year. The Davidson Leader has been in business for more than 115 years and still makes a profit, circulating to more than 1,500 readers in the communities of Davidson, Craik, Kenaston, Hanley, and the surrounding rural areas. Owner/publisher Tara de Ryk is hoping to find someone passionate about the town and local journalism to take over on Jan. 1, 2020. Here's the catch: She only wants $1 for the historic paper, and they're going to select the new owner based on an essay competition. de Ryk joins Gormley now to discuss the essay competition, her more than two decades in local Saskatchewan journalism, and the importance of local news.
