The senate’s Transport and Communications Committee is holding public hearings in Edmonton today and Regina on Wednesday as part of its review of Bill C-48, the "Oil Tanker Moratorium Act" commonly called the "tanker ban." If passed, the bill would ban oil tankers off Canada's West Coast, applying to any tankers carrying more than 12,500 tonnes of oil, with penalties as high as $5 million for any violations. Senator Richard Neufeld, who previously served as B.C.'s minister for energy, mines, and petroleum resources, is on the committee and has spoken out against the bill. He joins John now to discuss the bill and what he's hearing from Canadians.
