Could Canada be hit with a "plastic tax"? A recent report from Environment Canada, titled "Economic Study of the Canadian Plastics Industry, Markets and Waste," floats the idea of a tax or fee on "virgin resins" used to make new plastic products, in order to incentivize the use of recycled plastics among manufacturers. The report notes that such a tax could lead to increased prices for consumers, and might be difficult to adjust due to volatile oil prices. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is suggesting such a tax could cost consumers billions, and is fighting against it "before it hits taxpayers in the wallet." We'll hear both sides of the argument now, as John moderates a panel featuring Aaron Wudrick, Federal Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, and Adrian Midwood, executive director of Plastic Oceans Canada.
