In his recent paper “The ‘New Energy Economy’: An Exercise in Magical Thinking,” Mills points out that 84 per cent of the world's energy is still sourced from hydrocarbons while only 2 per cent is provided by wind, solar, and battery power. Mills says the idea of a "new energy economy" hinges on the false belief that green technologies are advancing at a rate similar to computing and communications tech, which would dramatically lower their cost and improve their efficiency. Mills joins John now to discuss the real future of the world's energy economy.
