Our NHL insider, Darren Dreger, joined for his regular Wednesday hit. Talked about Bruce coming back. Says that ownership was starting to get ancy. Not that there was any bad blood. Bruce was still under contract, so BB camp couldn’t make any calls around the league. Dregs thinks that Bruce went about it the right way. Says he was right to go with what he had. Was on the outside for a long time before Francesco reached out to him. Talked about JT Miller. Hard to be critical of his play this last season. Not sure how many calls management fielded on Miller this past season. Though, we were talking about it most of the year. The interest was there. Talked about cap space. Thinks that ARI and BUF are teams that might want to take on more cap. Thinks there could be more player movement this summer than we have seen in past years. Talked about PIT. Their new ownership group gets very involved. Not saying that is problematic but when your owner is more involved and wants to engage more in hockey decisions, that can be problematic. Talked about the possibility of Malkin to SEA.JPat for his daily hit. Still catching his breath after watching COL in OT last night. Talked about the SA by dmen. Answered the poll question. Doesn’t think that Canucks vs Kraken can ever be the battle of Alberta. Talked about the grit that could happen in CAL v EDM. Talked about the Canucks draft position. Doesn’t think there is any appetite to move up. Talked about the need to bring more sandpaper to their game. Luke Schenn and Kyle Burroughs bring it. Thinks they could probably use another guy to help clear guys out of the front of the net.

Patrick Johnston joined for his regular Tuesday appearance, without Molly, this time… Talked about assistant coaches. Talked about support staff that had been let go. Talked about sleep cycle and the difference between managing in the East compared to the West.

Jeff Paterson joined for his daily hit. Answered the poll question on what the Canucks need the most. Talked about recent Stanley Cup champions and how many goals they score in the regular season, compared to the rest of the league. Highlighted an LA Kings team that played the same 6 defensemen through the entire playoffs. Wondered if that team would hold up it today’s game. Doesn’t know if they would hold up but they would be a hell of a tough out. Talked about bringing Pens players in. Wouldn’t be shocked but doesn’t anticipate any of the big boys coming over. Talked about Canuck draft picks to have won a Stanley Cup. It’s not a lot…

Jeff Paterson, fresh off vacation, joined up to talk about the news in the Canucks. Thinks there needs to be some more work for the Canucks to be compared to a team like the Rangers. Talked about Bruce Boudreau coming back. Doesn’t think he strung the Canucks along, his concerns were justified. He wanted to make sure his mom and the hockey team he owns are all taken care of. Wondered why Bruce wouldn’t have called the Canucks himself and instead left it up to his agent to let them know he was coming back. Talked about the medical staff. Talked about the battle of Alberta.
Our Monday regular, John Shannon, joined us after a weekend of Game 7’s. The 5 game 7’s in hockey compared to the NBA’s is no competition. Says our game is so exciting right now. On the edge, every night. Talked about McDavid and his series. Says it is the best he has ever seen him playing going back to his 16 year old year in the OHL. Talked about the battle of Alberta. Wants it to go 9. The variables are McDavid and Markstrom/Smith. All Mike has done is stop the puck. Talked about Bruce Boudreau. Says there has to be an evolution to his game if he wants to continue in today’s game. Talked about the assistant coaches. Thinks that Scott Walker is the safest. These are the growing pains when you change management. Talked about the support staff. Suspects that both players and coaches could have played a part in the releasing of them. Talked about JT Miller. There weren’t many long term deals in PIT. Talked about where Trotz could go. He has connections to both Vegas and WPG.

Friday regular and Canucks insider, Rick Dhaliwal, joined to talk all things Canucks. Talked about Boudreau officially coming back. Thinks this got too public and it’s not a good look for either side. Says that everyone got together and said that this isn’t good. Talked about what the hold up could have been. Wasn’t term and money so must have been asst. coaches. Talked about the training staff that were let go. This doesn’t surprise anyone. Talked about Kuzmenko. The player is looking at years down the road. Just because he can only sign a one year deal now, doesn’t mean they don’t have an eye on the future. Talked about Brock Boeser. Thinks that contract talks will begin next week. The team isn’t afraid to qualify him. Talked about OEL.
Rob Williams of the Daily Hive joined Matt and Blake for his regular Friday hit to close out the show. Talked about the return of Boudreau. Talked about having street parties for big games. Talked about Troy “from Richmond” Stetcher. Awesome to see. He has a huge number of fans in Vancouver. He resonates with fans here as an underdog story. Wondered if the Canucks might take a look at him at the end of the season.
