  • February 1 2022 - Farhan Lalji & Patrick Johnston
Patrick Johnston of the Province and Post Media joined Matt and Blake in his regular Tuesday spot. Started off by answering the poll question and if he is entertained by the Canucks. He has been lately but overall… Having to pick an answer, he is going no. Talked about management understanding that there will be changes that need to be made. Talked about Garland and how he got to Vancouver. PJ talked about Virtanen and if the Canucks can recapture his buyout, retroactively.
Farhan Lalji of TSN joined Matt and Blake to talk about the bomb that Brian Flores dropped on the NFL today. Farhan’s knee-jerk reaction was good for Brian. It will be awhile before he gets a head coaching job again in the NFL. He would have been in play to get a HC job this cycle until this dropped. Talked about the lack of diversity among NFL head coaches right now. Thinks there would be no pushback on him getting hired. Talked about the role the owners are playing in all of this. It’s not as simple as saying white owners want to hire white coaches. It’s more complicated than that. If all the owners are making all the decision, you’re going to get a lot of dumb decisions. Talked about the possibility of the a halftime show act saying something during the show at the SB this year. The Rooney rule is complete optics. Thinks Goodell could be an effective communicator on this issue. Talked about what the reception of Flores would get in Seattle. Doesn’t know what the watershed moment will have to be. Talked about the GOAT of GOATS. Talked about if the Canucks have been entertaining. He has since Bruce got here.

  • January 31 2022 - Charean Williams & John Shannon
Our NFL insider, Charean Williams joined us after another outstanding weekend of playoff action. Talked about how this weekend lived up to the expectations of the previous weekend. Talked about the difference in Mahomes first half and second half. Doesn’t know if he was still thinking about the play that got away or if he was banged up. Joe Burrow was Joe Burrow in the 2nd half. We all assumed it was probably over after the coin flip. Charean says you still have to go thru KC to get to the SB. Says the Chiefs have now figured out how hard it is to win SB’s. Talked about the quality of QB in the AFC and how hard it is for the NFC to compete for a championship. There are 4 really good QB’s in the AFC and maybe more that can live up to their expectations. It’s not like the NFC teams have to go through all those QB’s. It’s just one. It’s up the AFC teams to go through all of them. Rams look good enough to hang with the Bengals. Talked about the potential retirement of Tom Brady. Charean does think the reporting of ESPN is accurate. He really wanted it to be on his time and his turf. Thinks his wife pushed him towards the direction. He doesn’t want a farewell tour. It didn’t work out the way he wanted, with the back to back. Charean thinks this was the plan all along. We will have to wait till his official announcement for it to be official. Thinks Mike McCarthy is on the hottest of hot seats. Thinks that would open the door for Sean Payton.
John Shannon joined Matt and Blake in his regular Monday slot. Started off talking about the passing of former HNIC exec, Ralph Mellanby. Talked about what he specifically brought from the 60’s to the 80’s. His kids are a chip off the ol’ block. Talked about Claude Julien and talked about how he got injured that will keep him away from the Olympics. He will be stuck in Davos as doctors have advised him not to fly. Julien and Colliton are similar in philosophy but expects him to be a bit more offensive. Could lead to more ice for Power and McTavish. Talked about who on the Canucks could be on the move. Garland on the block is surprising. There is no loyalty by current brass. John thinks we will hear more names. Doesn’t mean they will be traded. Just that there will be more names.

  • January 28 2022 - Rick Dhaliwal, Jeff Paterson, Paul Dolan & Rob Williams
Our Canucks Insider and Friday regular, Rick Dhaliwal joined us to end the week. After clearing his throat, Ricky talked about what JT Miller is worth on the trade market. JT’s camp knows that the conversation is going on. Despite all the noise, he goes out and has a whale of a game. Talked about where we might see him traded to. He is the driver of the engine. If it’s a grand slam offer, how could you not do it. It’s got to make sense. There are a lot of things at play here. How do you trade JT now and still expect to win, as you’ve promised other players. Canucks will get calls on Schenn and Motte. Halak will also get some calls but Rick doesn’t think he will move. Talked about Ryan Johnson. Talked about how much time Covid takes within the organization. Talked about Travis Hamonic. Doesn’t know if he has been shopped around. Talked about how great mandarin oranges are.

Our Canucks reporter and one half of the Rink Wide Podcast, Jeff Paterson joined us in his regular spot, on a non-game day. Talked about, who else, JT Miller. He certainly isn’t hurting his value on the trade front. It was a complete game for him and the hockey club. Equated the win to a past win in WAS. If your best players have an impact on the ice, pretty good chance you will come out on top. JPat answered the poll question. Could see JT having a few more seasons like he is having this one. Jeff asks what if all the other Canuck players were playing like they should. He has been consistent. If he can ever get the support than he could have a few years of this type of run. Talked about the potential of a trade. It’s not like they are giving him away. On the surface it would be a massive blow to the here and now. They will have to resign him at some point and that will be expensive. This would be a hockey trade. There isn’t a contender out there that wouldn’t have a problem getting his salary into their cap. It’s incredible value and a big part of this story. Talked about Horvat making his way back to the team. Expected to return after joining the team in CAL. Bruce will have options in goal with Demko and Halak back. Talked about defensive pairings with Poolman out.

Paul Dolan, ex Canadian Mens National Team Goalkeeper joined Matt and Blake after a big win from the team in Honduras. Talked about Milan Borjan and the stamp that he has made in the program. Talked about his technique. Talked about Cavallini and his resurgence in the national program and hoping he comes into Caps camp looking for a bounce back. Talked about the loss of Max Crepeau. It was a shocker what transpired. Yes they got a million in GAM but it doesn’t come close to what they’ve lost with Crepeau. Likes Hasal.

Rob Williams of the Daily Hive joined Matt and Blake to wrap up the week that was for social media in Canucks world. Talked about how a JT Miller trade would go over. A lot of it depends on what you get back. There is a lot of fans that realize that you need a bit of a retool. You know whatever team he goes to, he will be a star. Talked about how many Miller jerseys we see in Vancouver. Talked about reverse retro. Thinks a flying V with current colours would be a slam dunk. Talked about a potential practice facility.

  • January 27 2022 - Scott Rintoul & Big White Ski Resort
Thursday regular and Vancouver sportscaster, Scott Rintoul joined Matt and Blake. Started off talking about the 49ers win over the Packers. Talked about the other games it reminded him of. Talked about his thoughts on Patrik Allvin. Being Swedish alone is fitting enough. Ownership deserves credit for this. Knows they are spending money after they lured people away from other teams. Talked about Émilie Castonguay. Says the women being brought in isn’t tokenism. They are clearly qualified for the job. For her to leave what she was doing shows you that this is a very good opportunity. Talked about Ryan Johnson. Believes the Sedin’s would endorse a move up within the organization. Scotty sees a more prominent roll within the Canucks FO. Answered the poll question. A market has already established itself with JT Miller. He could fetch a haul. Talked about what he sees happening in the Canucks crease. Has seen enough from Martin that he could move ahead of Halak. Nothing against Jaro but there are financial implications. Talked about Michael Reilly. Didn’t have a good sense that he’d be back after the way the season ended. His body has taken a beating. Scotty has not seen a tougher QB in any league. He is as tough as anybody. Couldn’t believe he was getting up after some hits in EDM. He was a great leader there. He is a better person than a player. The player will likely find his way into the Hall of Fame. Talked about who will come into replace him in BC.

  • January 26 2022 - Darren Dreger & Jeff Paterson
Darren Dreger, host of Ray and Dregs and NHL Insider, joined Matt and Blake in his regular Wednesday spot. Talked about Patrik Allvin and the fact they had to go through their process before naming him the GM. By all accounts, this is a really good hire. Those who know him, think he will be successful. Thinks that one more AGM will be added. Wouldn’t be surprised if it is another female. You might get into a game of semantics of title. The department in general will be bolstered. Not sure if up to three more but they will take their time. Talked about the work ahead of Kent Hughes in MTL after he was with the team the last week. Dregs thinks agents and GM’s have already reached out to JR and Allvin. Dregs talked about having never met him. After poking around and talking to agents, he learned that PA has been pretty active with them. Talked about some Russians that he might be looking at. Thinks he will be good at finding top Euro FA’s. Talked about Castonguay. Doesn’t think her chat with the Habs went all that far. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if more than the 2 teams had an eye on her services. Talked about the path forward for the Sedin twins. They could be involved in whatever way they want to be involved.
Our Canucks Reporter and one half of the Rink Wide Podcast, Jeff Paterson joined us in his regular spot. Talked about the news of the day, in hiring Patrik Allvin. Talked about who could be the 3rd AGM. Ryan Johnson makes sense when you look at who the other two are and what they do. Talked about where they need to look first in-house as most important areas to look at. Player development certainly sticks out. Was glad to hear that a practice facility is back on board. Why it hasn’t happened, with everything that is downtown, is puzzling. Would be a great partnership with the community. JPat thinks the heat is going to turn up on Brock Boeser. He has been quiet since he returned from protocol. Thinks JT Miller or Boeser that one of them will be dealt by the deadline. Thinks that JR has an itch to put his stamp and give this team a makeover. Not just a nip and tuck. Talked about how Rutherford will go about the Jaro Halak bonus. Says you could tell Halak that he will sit. Spencer Martin has played well enough to get the 6 or 7 starts that a backup would play with Demko playing so well. Talked about Kyle Burroughs.
