As far as upcoming grime producers to get excited about go, As.If Kid (@sid-akhurst) should be up there on your list. He caught our ears recently at this year’s Bugged Out weekender, where Mumdance was banging out his refix of ‘Functions On The Low’ in Butlins’ bowling alley. Real name Sid Akhurst, the Swindon producer’s dizzying grime instrumentals have been spun on the regular by Slimzee on his coveted Rinse show, with Wiley unleashing bars over them in recent weeks, as well as having had cosigns by the likes of Slackk, Logos and Dappa.

Roska has slipped on his Afro-influenced Bakongo cloak yet again for a new 12” on Quadrants, following outings from Arma, Callahan and label head honcho Mele. Two-tracker ‘Grind’ is packed with blisteringly hot tribal rhythms and complex syncopation over two solid cuts. All claps, drums and a shower of punchy bass, Roska showcases his aptitude for the dancefloor-detonating rhythm and restless mining of the UK Funky spectrum on 'Tee Oh Ell'.

@jozef-k and @iamwinterson are about to go back to their roots. New EP 'Smiling Through Wide Eyes' is a return to the glory days of rave, a break-laden house banger with a spiritual vocal loop. @Compauk’s been away for a minute, but the producer is back with a brand new EP on Deep Medi (from which we recently premiered the excellent ‘Four Four Claps’). We thought it was high time for him to piece together a mix for us, and that’s exactly what the Manchester dub enthusiast has done.
