אַבַּיֵּי הֲוָה מְסַדֵּר סֵֽדֶר הַמַּעֲרָכָה מִשְּׁמָא דִגְמָרָא, וְאַלִּבָּא דְאַבָּא שָׁאוּל,
מַעֲרָכָה גְדוֹלָה קוֹדֶֽמֶת לְמַעֲרָכָה שְׁנִיָּה שֶׁל קְטֹֽרֶת,
וּמַעֲרָכָה שְׁנִיָּה שֶׁל קְטֹֽרֶת קוֹדֶֽמֶת לְסִדּוּר שְׁנֵי גִזְרֵי עֵצִים,
וְסִדּוּר שְׁנֵי גִזְרֵי עֵצִים קֽוֹדֶם לְדִשּׁוּן מִזְבֵּֽחַ הַפְּנִימִי,
וְדִשּׁוּן מִזְבֵּֽחַ הַפְּנִימִי קֽוֹדֶם לְהַטָּבַת חָמֵשׁ נֵרוֹת,
וְהַטָּבַת חָמֵשׁ נֵרוֹת קוֹדֶֽמֶת לְדַם הַתָּמִיד,
וְדַם הַתָּמִיד קֽוֹדֶם לְהַטָּבַת שְׁתֵּי נֵרוֹת,
וְהַטָּבַת שְׁתֵּי נֵרוֹת קוֹדֶֽמֶת לִקְטֹֽרֶת,
וּקְטֹֽרֶת קוֹדֶֽמֶת לְאֵבָרִים,
וְאֵבָרִים לְמִנְחָה, וּמִנְחָה לַחֲבִתִּין,
וַחֲבִתִּין לִנְסָכִין, וּנְסָכִין לְמוּסָפִין,
וּמוּסָפִין לְבָזִיכִין, וּבָזִיכִין קוֹדְמִין לְתָמִיד שֶׁל בֵּין הָעַרְבָּֽיִם.
שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: וְעָרַךְ עָלֶֽיהָ הָעֹלָה וְהִקְטִיר עָלֶֽיהָ חֶלְבֵי הַשְּׁלָמִים,
עָלֶֽיהָ הַשְׁלֵם כָּל הַקָּרְבָּנוֹת כֻּלָּם
Abbaye would recount the [sequence of offerings, beginning with]
the arrangement [of wood on the outer altar], based on scholarly tradition,
according to the teaching of Abba Shaul.
The large arrangement [of wood on the altar]
preceded the second arrangement [of wood,
from which coals were taken] for the incense-offering.
The second arrangement [of wood] for the incense-offering
preceded the placement of the two logs.
The placement of the two logs preceded the
clearing of the ashes from the inner altar.
The clearing of the ashes from the inner altar preceded the
cleaning of the five lamps [of the Menorah].
The cleaning of the five lamps preceded [the dashing of]
the blood of the daily offering.
[The dashing of] the blood of the daily offering preceded the
cleaning of the [remaining] two lamps [of the Menorah].
The cleaning of the two lamps preceded the incense-offering.
The incense-offering preceded [the offering of] the limbs on the altar.
[The offering of] the limbs preceded the meal-offering.
The meal-offering preceded the fried chavitin.
The chavitin preceded the wine libations.
The wine libations preceded the additional [Mussaf] offering.
The additional offering preceded the [two] bowls [of frankincense].
The bowls [of frankincense] preceded the afternoon daily offering.
This [sequence] is indicated by the verse,12 kohen]
shall arrange the burnt-offering upon it,
and upon it he shall burn the fat of the peace-offerings.”
[This can be understood to mean] “upon it” —
i.e., after it, [that is, after the morning daily offering],
you shall complete [the offering of] all the sacrifices.
