Brake Check/Tug Test
“I will be checking my:__________”
“Trailer Brake”
1. Make sure trailer brake is applied (Red Knob; pulled out)
2. Release parking brake (Yellow Knob; push in)
3. Engage clutch
4. Put vehicle in 1st gear
5. Slowly release the clutch until you feel a tug.
6. Engage clutch
7. Put back into Neutral
“This was a good test because my trailer brake held my trailer.”
“Parking Brake”
1. Make sure parking brake is applied (Yellow Knob; pulled out)
2. Release trailer brake (Red Knob; push in)
3. Engage clutch
4. Put vehicle in 1st gear
5. Slowly release the clutch until you feel a tug.
6. Engage clutch
7. Put back into Neutral
“This was a good test because my parking brake held my tractor.”
“Service Brake”
Say: “I will move 3-5ft forward and my steering wheel should not shift left or right with both hands off the steering wheel”
1. Release both spring brakes (Yellow and Red knobs)
2. Engage clutch and brake
3. Put vehicle in 1st gear
4. Slowly release the clutch & service brake.
5. Let vehicle move forward (keep hands off the steering wheel)
6. Engage Clutch, then slowly engage Service Brake to come to a full stop
“This was a good test because my service brake stopped my vehicle and my vehicle didn’t shift left or right.”
Once you are done with your Brake check ask “Can you help me Check my Lights?”
