Lights Operation Check

(make sure your Engine is Off; then turn key on to accessory mode)

Front:

1. Head Lights (turn on switch & leave on)

2. High Beams (turn on & off)

3. L/R Turn Signals

4. 4-way/Emergency flashers

Rear:

1. L/R Turn Signals

2. 4-way/Emergency flashers

3. Brakes

Brake Check/Tug Test

“I will be checking my:__________”

“Trailer Brake”

1. Make sure trailer brake is applied (Red Knob; pulled out)

2. Release parking brake (Yellow Knob; push in)

3. Engage clutch

4. Put vehicle in 1st gear

5. Slowly release the clutch until you feel a tug.

6. Engage clutch

7. Put back into Neutral

“This was a good test because my trailer brake held my trailer.”

“Parking Brake”

1. Make sure parking brake is applied (Yellow Knob; pulled out)

2. Release trailer brake (Red Knob; push in)

3. Engage clutch

4. Put vehicle in 1st gear

5. Slowly release the clutch until you feel a tug.

6. Engage clutch

7. Put back into Neutral

“This was a good test because my parking brake held my tractor.”

“Service Brake”

Say: “I will move 3-5ft forward and my steering wheel should not shift left or right with both hands off the steering wheel”

1. Release both spring brakes (Yellow and Red knobs)

2. Engage clutch and brake

3. Put vehicle in 1st gear

4. Slowly release the clutch & service brake.

5. Let vehicle move forward (keep hands off the steering wheel)

6. Engage Clutch, then slowly engage Service Brake to come to a full stop

“This was a good test because my service brake stopped my vehicle and my vehicle didn’t shift left or right.”

Once you are done with your Brake check ask “Can you help me Check my Lights?”

• ​Release Service Brake
• ​Slowly tap on the Accelerator until you feel a tug.
• ​Release Accelerator
• ​Engage Service brake
• ​Put back into Neutral

• ​Release both spring brakes (Yellow and Red knobs)

• ​Release Service Brake
• ​Slowly tap on the Accelerator
• ​Let vehicle move forward (keep hands off the steering wheel)
• ​Slowly Engage Service Brake to come to a full stop

Once you are done with your Brake check ask “Can you help me Check my Lights?”

Class A In Cab Inspection

When finished with AirBrake Test. Turn truck back on. While pressure builds to max Start In Cab Inspection

In Cab Inspection

Lighting Indicators

Safe start Vehicle (while the needles stabilize watch for Def & Fuel lights)

• ​Def Reader & Fuel: amber lights turn on and off indicating they’re working properly & filled to proper level

• ​Headlight Switch- Must Turn on, working properly (leave on)
• ​Indicators- Left/Right turn signals, working properly
• ​High Beams- turn On, working properly
• ​Emergency Lights / 4 Way Flashers- Turn On & Off, working properly

Emergency Equipment

• ​Fire Extinguisher: Properly mounted and secure, filled, up to date with a pin. (Located below driver side Left side)
• ​3 Triangle D.O.T Reflectors: All in one piece, in working condition.
• ​At least 6 Extra Fuses: in my glove box
• ​Circuit Box/ Fuse Box: is located under my glove box

Windshield & Traffic Monitoring Devices

• ​Windshield: Should Not be cracked, broken; clean with no illegal stickers to obstruct my view, sealed all around with a rubber seal, that is not ripped, torn or frayed.

• ​Hood Mirrors: Not cracked, broken; clean with no illegal stickers to obstruct my view, all adjusted to me, the driver.
• ​Side Mirrors: Not cracked, broken; clean with no illegal stickers to obstruct my view, all adjusted to me, the driver.

Wipers & Washers

• ​Windshield washer fluid switch-Must Turn on, working properly (push inward)
• ​Windshield Wiper Switch- Must Turn on, working properly (twist forward)
• ​Wipers: Not broken or cracked, in working condition w/ enough rubber on my blade that is not ripped, torn or frayed.

Heater & Defrost

(Turn Dial to 8)

• ​Heater- *Turn on to feel air blowing*, working properly
• ​Defroster- *Turn on to feel air blowing*, working properly

Horns

• ​City Horn- *Must Honk* working properly
• ​Air Horn- *Must Honk* working properly

Once you’ve completed air brakes and incab you will move onto Brake Check / Tug Test.
