You know the A side, but take a listen to that funky B side too! You tell 'em, Jackie! Soul music just doesn't get much better than this. By the way, these tracks didn't show up on a Jackie Moore album for 3 years, until 1973.

This is a new, unplayed stock copy of the original, long version (3:31) with a drillhole, in its original Atlantic factory sleeve. There's a reason this song is in the top half of Dave Marsh's list of the 1001 greatest singles ever made... It's a perfect Philly soul record. Note: Quite by accident, I discovered that Atlantic pulled this original version, clocking at 3:31 minutes, and replaced it with one that's 11 seconds shorter... 3:20. I noticed it when adding a promo copy, which was labeled "New Version" and has the 3:20 time. Curious, I checked my other stock, and most of the cutouts were the 3:31 release. What's the difference? I had to record both and do a comparison in my audio editor, but it turns out that the trimmed bit has what might have been mistaken for an offensive lyric. The bit comes right after the instrumental bridge, where Phil Wynne sings,

One of a kind love affair is...
Makes you wanna love her,
You just gotta hug her, yeah...

The first couple of times I listened to it today, I thought Wynne was singing, "You just gotta hurt her, yeah," and I suspect that's what some other listeners thought, giving Atlantic an earful I suppose.

Much ado about nothing? Heck no! This is the kind of trivia that makes 45 collecting so special, and so different from collecting other forms of vinyl!

So now you know... Go back and check your own copy of this gem! I'm curious to know how many 3:20 copies are out there, and how many 3:31's, aren't you? :-)

Here's a beautiful copy of my favorite Turtles song! Well, actually 'You Baby' is my favorite. I think. Well, they're real close, that's for sure! I took the opportunity of this copy's pristine Mint audio to make an mp3 "snippet", so you decide! :-) This 45 comes in a Near Mint copy of the release's rarely seen picture sleeve. Collector Nerd Alert: I'm using the recorded song to determine the A side track time rather than the 2:17 (the album track length) that shows on the label. Note: This copy has Near Mint labels and vinyl (styrene), with magical grooves that deliver pristine Mint sound. The picture sleeve is Near Mint with just a touch of ringwear (see scan).

This is a beautiful copy of a great Beach Boys single, featuring a B side that could have been an A side on its own, taken from the Pet Sounds LP. Chock full of Brian Wilson production surprises, like his best work. I've been seeking a nice copy of this single ever since the A side was featured on the "Big Bang Theory" TV show. I really love that line "You soften my life with your love, your precious love..." Note: This 45 record comes in a nearly flawless picture sleeve. It looks Mint (Labels, Vinyl) and has Near Mint sound.

The A side was the Sunshine Pop hit, but it was the muscular, Power Pop B site that made the lasting impression, particularly after R.E.M. did an honorary cover in the mid-1980's.
