Followed by Our Miss Brooks starring Eve Arden, originally broadcast January 1, 1950, 75 years ago, Babysitting on New Years Eve. A New Year's Eve story. Miss Brooks is stuck babysitting while everyone else is going out to a party. Motion Picture Daily and Fame magazines present an award to Eve Arden as the best radio comedienne of 1949. 

Then The Great Gildersleeve starring Harold Peary, originally broadcast January 1, 1947, 78 years ago, New Years Ball.  Gildersleeve resolves to be a bad boy! Dressed as a pirate, he goes to the costume ball without a date.

Followed by Gunsmoke starring William Conrad, originally broadcast January 1, 1956, 69 years ago, Puckett’s New Year.  Jed Larner has left Ira Pucket out on the prairie, where his foot becomes badly frozen and is cut off by Doc. Feeling that he's less than a man, Pucket decides to rob a bank!

Finally Lum and Abner, originally broadcast January 1, 1945, 80 years ago, New Years Day at Abners. While waiting for New Year's Day dinner, Lum, Abner and Ulysses opine how the womenfolk don't really appreciate the holidays!

A Funny New Years Eve

First a look at the events of the day

Followed by The News from 74 years ago, then Phil Harris/Alice Faye, originally broadcast December 31, 1950, 74 years ago, Mr. Scott's New Years Party.  Phil and Alice haven't been invited to the sponsor's New Year's Eve party, so Phil plans to take Alice to Ciro's.

Then Amos ‘n’ Andy, originally broadcast December 31, 1943, 81 years ago, Mr. 1943 with Edward G. Robinson.  Andy needs a tuxedo for his big New Year's Eve date. He rents one from The Kingfish and dreams about his meeting with the year 1943. The year is portrayed as a gangster with only a few hours to live by guest Edward G. Robinson. 

Followed by the Jimmy Durante Show, originally broadcast December 31, 1947, 77 years ago, Guest hosts Garry Moore and Red Skelton. While hospitalized, Jimmy's place is taken by Red Skelton and Garry Moore. "Junior, The Mean Widdle Kid" plays little 1948 at a New Year's party. Red and Garry do an opera about the eternal triangle. 

Then Claudia, originally broadcast December 31, 1948, 76 years ago, Ringing in 1949.  New Year's eve with Roger and Mr. Tucker.

Finally, Superman, originally broadcast December 31, 1941, 83 years ago, The Mechanical Man.  Lois Lane infiltrates a German nest of spies...and is of course promptly captured by them. Superman investigates but only finds an empty apartment...and a strange hissing sound!

Then Duffy’s Tavern starring Ed Gardner as Archie the Manager, originally broadcast December 29, 1948, 76 years ago, Christmas Cards with Dorothy Shay.  Archie distressed because Finnegan didn’t send him a Christmas card.  But Finnegan didn’t get a card from Archie either!

Then The Linit Bath Club Revue starring Fred Allen, originally broadcast December 25, 1932, 92 years ago,  The Mammoth Department Store.  A visit to Fred's zany department store. Roy Atwill's "malaprop" routine would later be appropriated by Doodles Weaver of Spike Jones' band.

And The Hotpoint Holiday Hour, originally broadcast December 25, 1949, 75 years ago, The Man Who Came to Dinner starring Jack Benny.  Sheridan Whiteside creates havoc once again. Jack Benny does quite well in the role made famous by Monty Woolley.
 
Followed by The Mysterious Traveler, originally broadcast December 25, 1951, 73 years ago, Christmas Story.  A man driving across the country with a stranger decides to impersonate him to collect his inheritance after the stranger dies suddenly.
