There are few mythological creatures as isolated as the Banshee of Ireland.  I can think of no other country with legends of a creature quite like the Banshee, yes there are ghosts and spirits and poltergeists but the Banshee sticks out among them all.  This is one such tale from T. Crofton Croker about this fascinating specter.
