This is and the following pieces, Schumann took out of the Album in 1848 and never intended to publish them. After his death many of his outtakes were published as a "supplement" to the Album for the Young op. 68. One interesting difference between most of the pieces of the supplement and the original pieces from the Album is, that the pieces of the supplement often have typical classical expression marks in Italian instead of German. Why he took oiut those pieces? No one knows. But seeing the end result of the 43 published pieces it appears that they didn't fit in the overal dramaturgy, besides of about more than 60 or 70 pieces would have simply too much for an Album for the Young.
