The Marquette Choral Society usually rehearses in the Fall and Winter semesters at Northern Michigan University. This year, they are holding their first Summer Sing, giving singers of all kinds an opportunity to rehearse and perform a concert in the summer, when schedules can be more forgiving. The DeVos Art Museum on Northern Michigan University's campus is near the end of their 12th annual juried exhibition, North of the 45th. Artists that hail from north of the 45th parallel can submit their artwork annually for this exhibition, which accepts media from all across the arts. The United States Coast Guard Band performs at Forest Roberts Theatre as part of its 2019 National Concert Tour of the Great Lakes. Lieutenant Commander Adam Williamson leads an engaging program with works by Copland, Sousa, and others. Alexis Mahler plays the cello, but in a way that is different, tender, and personal. Originally from Marquette, she was entrenched in the local music scene in many kinds of performances and ensembles. She eventually became interested in telling her story through her own music, and as a part of that discovery, she moved to Portland, Oregon and developed musical friendships there, too. Now, she's back in Marquette for a reunion with some of her home musician friends for a performance at The Crib.

The Johann Sebastian Bach Cello Suites are one of the most frequently performed pieces for unaccompanied cello, and also some of the most recognizable solo pieces ever written for the instrument.
