How do we end up somewhere we never intended to be? In Week 1 of The Road to Recovery, “High on Life,” we look at the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15 and the choices that slowly led him from his father’s house to the pigpen.

This message challenges us to recognize the road we’re on before we reach the consequences at the end of it.

• Pay attention to desires that are pulling you away from God.
• Don’t trade something valuable in your future for something that feels good right now.
• You don’t have to keep going just because you’ve already made a bad decision.
• Learning to survive in dysfunction isn’t the same as finding freedom.

Your last bad decision does not have to become your next one. You can turn around today.

In this Wednesday night Bible study, Pastor Kevin continues through the book of Genesis by diving into the incredible story of Joseph. From being favored by his father and receiving dreams from God, to being betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and thrown into prison, Joseph’s circumstances repeatedly seemed to move him farther away from the promise God had given him.

But behind every setback, God was still working.

Pastor Kevin shows how God’s hand can be present even in seasons that feel confusing, painful, or completely opposite of what He promised. Whether Joseph was in Potiphar’s house or sitting in prison, the favor of God remained on his life. His integrity through temptation, his willingness to serve others while facing his own struggles, and his trust in God’s timing continued preparing him for what was ahead.

This study is a powerful reminder that when God gives a promise, opposition cannot cancel His purpose. What looks like a detour may actually be part of the road God is using to position you exactly where you need to be.

Three main takeaways:

1. God’s purpose can survive every setback.
   Joseph’s brothers tried to destroy the dream God had given him, but their actions ultimately became part of the journey that moved Joseph toward his destiny. When God has spoken, circumstances do not get the final word.
2. Favor and character matter wherever God places you.
   Whether Joseph was a slave in Potiphar’s house or a prisoner in Egypt, people could see that the Lord was with him. Joseph remained faithful, worked with excellence, resisted temptation, and allowed the character of God to be visible through his life.
3. Trust God’s timing when nothing seems to be happening.
   Joseph spent years waiting for the promise to unfold. Even after interpreting the butler’s dream, he remained in prison for two more years. God had not forgotten him—He was arranging the right people, circumstances, and timing for the next chapter of Joseph’s life.

Reaching people doesn’t start with having the perfect words—it starts with making space for them. In the final week of Connect 4, we look at how Jesus connected with the world through something surprisingly simple: hospitality.

Jesus consistently stepped into rooms, homes, conversations, and relationships with people others avoided. His example challenges us to ask whether our faith is just visible at church or whether it changes how we treat people everywhere we go.

In this week’s Bible study, Pastor Kevin continues through the book of Genesis, exploring the life of Abraham and the powerful ways God used Old Testament people and events to reveal His plan of redemption through Jesus Christ.

From the miraculous birth of Isaac to Abraham’s willingness to offer his promised son on Mount Moriah, we see a remarkable picture of God the Father and Jesus, His only Son. Pastor Kevin also examines Paul’s teaching in Galatians 4, where Sarah and Hagar represent the difference between grace and the law, freedom and bondage, and living by the Spirit rather than the flesh.

The study concludes with Abraham’s servant searching for a bride for Isaac—a beautiful picture of the Holy Spirit preparing the Church to become the Bride of Christ. Throughout the lesson, we are reminded that nothing is too difficult for God, His promises can be trusted, and the entire story of Scripture points us toward Jesus.

Three Main Takeaways:

1. God’s promises can be trusted, even when they appear impossible.
   Abraham and Sarah waited many years for Isaac, but God fulfilled His promise at the appointed time. Our circumstances never limit God’s ability to accomplish what He has spoken.

2. The Old Testament continually points us toward Jesus.
   Isaac carrying the wood up Mount Moriah and willingly being placed on the altar foreshadows Jesus carrying the cross and willingly giving His life as our substitute.

3. Believers are called to live in spiritual freedom.
   Through Christ, we are no longer slaves to sin or dependent upon our own efforts to become righteous. We have been born again, brought under grace, and are called to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
