“You look like this mad scientist up there mixing records, like some crazy chemist.” – JJ Brown
Clayton the Chemist is a DJ and Producer who masters a wealth of different musical genres, to present a soulful experience on the dance floor, and off of it.
He is 1/2 of the pioneering fusers of Funk, Soul, Jazz, and Electronic Music, the group Clayton & Fulcrum, www.claytonandfulcrum.com. His solo vibes range from House, Bass, DnB, and of course, all that’s funky.
His live sets encompass this diversity of vibes and tempos. He plays, and Dubs out, the elements of original songs in an improvisational way that is different with every set and crowd. With technology, he is able to have a complete Dub mixing desk and studio wherever he goes. Here’s a review of a recent live set upstairs at the legendary Philly House party, The Shakedown.
“As Ras’ set came to a close, Clayton the Chemist took over the controls a bit after 12:00 am. Clayton’s sound was infused with funk and soul and had many quickly moving from the bar to the dance floor. Some even made their way on the top of tables to dance, as sun drenched grooves began to rain down.” John Tordini for EDMPENN
Here’s a quote from the man himself about his sound:
“When you hear the first notes of Stevie Wonder’s voice, you instantly feel what he’s singing about. The range of my sets, and musical library, will be broad, but the thing that ties everything together, the essential element, is that you will feel the emotion the song is conveying.”
