Lactation Lab was born out of my own personal experience. Breastfeeding was difficult for me -- incredibly painful, time consuming and exhausting. When my second child was born, I resolved to breastfeed exclusively - I thought if I just tried harder, it all would be easier. However, my daughter was diagnosed as “failure to thrive”, meaning that she was not getting enough nutrients to grow. 

As a physician at UCLA -- with a practice largely consisting of new mothers and babies -- I looked everywhere for answers. I thought, “of all the lab tests I can order, why is there no way of knowing what is in my own milk?” An abundance of studies showed diet modification had a positive impact on breast milk quality and infant health outcomes.

In early 2017, I began testing breastfeeding patients in my practice and guiding their diets according to the research to help improve their milk quality. The progress my patients were making was so encouraging that I resolved to make this type of support available for as many families as I could. I founded Lactation Lab with the mission to provide parents with scientific and evidence-based insights, resources, and guidance. I believe that every mom deserves access to information on how basic lifestyle changes can improve the quality of her breast milk and optimize her child’s health and nutrition. This possibility is at our fingertips. Whatever your views or preferences are for breastfeeding, we hope to support you in making the choices that are best for you and your family. With all the uncertainties there are during motherhood, we strive to eliminate the guesswork for this one.

Dr. Fong gets to the root cause of trauma and emotional healing with Joelle Rabow Maletis, MAEd, MA, LMFT, is the CEO and Clinical Director of JRM&A. She is a psychotherapist, military psychology and PTSD expert. Joelle incorporates therapeutic models such as CPT, CBT, DBT, somatic work, EMDR and solution-focused therapy to allow clients to make changes in their own lives. 

Dr. Fong and Joelle discuss trauma-directed therapies such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), and more. They discuss how trapped emotions can be held in the physical body and manifest as physical symptoms. Dr. Fong explains how "getting to the root cause" of physical symptoms often must include trauma-directed therapy.

Colon Hydrotherapy, commonly known as a colonic, is the gentle infusion of temperature/ pressure controlled, filtered water into the colon using FDA approved equipment. As water hydrates the colon, waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis. This may assist in cleansing the colon of accumulated waste material, gas, mucus, and/or undigested foods and toxins.

Bio-Electric Lymphatic Drainage (BELD) is a type of therapy that uses a light beam generator, which emits a stream of photons (negative ions). This light beam emits a heartbeat pulsation that when combined with a manual lymphatic drainage massage, helps improve the flow in blood and lymph. Simultaneously, the process loosens waste from cells, which assists in the removal of toxins, poisons and trapped proteins. This literally cleans the spaces between cells and allows waste product and toxins to slowly and safely flow out through the normal channels.
