Spechler, author of an editorial looking at surgical treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in the December issue of CGH.  They also discuss a related 12-year study in the same issue that compared the effects of therapy for GERD with omeprazole with those of antireflux surgery.  Dr. Spechler is chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Professor of Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX.

A retroactive study of double balloon endoscopy complications at nine US centers appears in the November 2009 issue of CGH.  Dr. Kuemmerle discusses this article with senior author Dr. Carol Semrad of the University of Chicago.

A study in the October 2009 CGH looks at presentation and management of post-treatment relapse in autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) and immunoglobulin G4–associated cholangitis. A meta-analysis paper in the August issue of CGH set out to determine the rate of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in adult Crohn's disease (CD) patients who have received anti-TNF therapy, and compare it with that of a population-based registry and a populationof CD patients treated with immunomodulators.  Dr. Kuemmerle speaks with the senior author of the paper, Dr. Bruce Sands of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA.

Dr. Kuemmerle speaks with Dr. Gary Falk, whose study in the June issue of CGH aimed to determine the frequency of unsuspected carcinoma at esophagectomy in Barrett's esophagus patients with high-grade dysplasia who underwent the Seattle protocol, and to compare the findings with those of a less rigorous biopsy protocol.
