Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is facing fresh international pressure over the Epstein files after Hillary Clinton called for anyone with relevant knowledge to testify before Congress, as a political row involving Donald Trump’s administration alleged "cover up" adds to the transatlantic fallout.
Peter Cardwell speaks to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams about the growing scrutiny on the ex-Duke of York and the implications for the Royal Family.
Fitzwilliams describes Clinton’s intervention as an “extraordinarily powerful claim” demanding transparency, noting that Andrew previously promised to cooperate but has resisted requests from US lawmakers. He says the former prince would fear travelling to the United States because of potential legal consequences, while lawyers could argue the scale of publicity would make a fair trial difficult.
The interview also examines allegations linked to Andrew’s time as UK trade envoy, possible misconduct in public office and his contacts with Jeffrey Epstein, alongside the coordinated work of UK police forces and the Palace’s pledge to assist if formally required. Fitzwilliams warns the situation “gets worse and worse”, highlighting the growing calls for testimony, disclosure and accountability on both sides of the Atlantic.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor strenuously denies any claim of wrongdoing.
