Show notes: Released on January 14, 1992, REMEMBER THE TIME stands as a landmark in Michael Jackson’s musical evolution. As the second single from his Dangerous album, the song represents Jackson’s deliberate shift from the sound of Quincy Jones to the style of new jack swing. Co-written and produced with Teddy Riley and Bernard Belle, the track achieved both commercial and critical success, peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching #1 on the R&B chart. In this video, we also discuss the Remember the Time short film that accompanied the single, which premiered on FOX in February 1992. Directed by John Singleton, the then-24-year-old filmmaker behind *Boyz n the Hood*, the film was a stylized portrayal of ancient Egypt featuring an all-Black cast, including Eddie Murphy, Iman, and Magic Johnson. The project was a groundbreaking celebration of Black royalty and cultural heritage, realized through elaborate costume design, choreography by Fatima Robinson, and pioneering visual effects. The film employed early morphing CGI technology and high-concept cinematography, making it one of the most innovative music videos of its time.

If you ever wanted to know who created the dance sequence for Smooth Criminal, who choreographed Michael Jackson’s smooth criminal, how Michael Jackson did the lean in smooth criminal, and so much more about Michael Jackson’s dancing, you’re in for a real treat with today’s video! Award-winning Director and Choreographer Vincent Paterson has worked in nearly every genre of the entertainment industry, including film, theater, Broadway, concert tours, opera, music videos, television and commercials. He’s worked with Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bjork, Whitney Houston, Donna Summer, Van Halen, Paul McCartney & more. Vincent first appeared as a gang leader in the video for “Beat It” as well as a zombie dancer in “Thriller”. Original Thriller Zombie interview- right here with Vincent Paterson. He went on to choreograph & direct Michael Jackson’s first solo tour, the Bad Tour, as well as choreograph the videos for “Smooth Criminal” “The Way You Make Me Feel” “Black or White” and directed 1997’s “Blood on the Dance Floor”. Not to mention Vincent Paterson’s work on numerous other Michael Jackson appearances including the 1993 Superbowl Halftime Show and MTV10. His book Icons and Instincts: Choreographing and Directing Entertainment's Biggest Stars book was released in 2022 & it is Vincent’s autobiography and account of his life, many accomplishments and collaborations, & his journey within the world of dance.
