In July 2015, 60-year-old chiropractor Dr. Mary Yoder suddenly became violently ill. What initially appeared to be a mysterious illness quickly took a darker turn when Mary died just two days later. As her family tried to understand how a seemingly healthy woman could become so sick so suddenly, doctors began searching for answers — and eventually, toxicology revealed something shocking. Mary had been poisoned with colchicine, a powerful medication that can be fatal in high doses. What first looked like a sudden and unexplained death was now being investigated as murder.

In Part 1 of our two-part look at the case of Mary Yoder, we’re getting to know Mary, her life, her family and the events leading up to her sudden death, before diving into the discovery that she was deliberately poisoned. On the morning of 21 March 1972, 14-year-old Marilyn Wallman left her family home in Mackay, Queensland, on her bicycle to catch the school bus. Just minutes later, her bike and school bag were found abandoned on the side of the road. Marilyn was gone.

For more than five decades, her family has been left without answers. Marilyn was believed to have been abducted and murdered, but only a fragment of her remains was ever recovered — and no one has ever been charged. Now, 54 years later, a second coronial inquest is revisiting the case, examining new evidence, conflicting accounts and allegations surrounding people who may have known more than they originally admitted.

In this episode, we look at Marilyn's life, the morning she disappeared, the investigation that followed, the evidence uncovered over the decades, and the latest developments from the 2026 inquest. On July 4, 2026, 18-year-old Nolan Wells travelled by boat with friends to Horn Island, Mississippi, to celebrate the Fourth of July. By the end of the night, Nolan was missing, later his body was discovered on the island. What happened during those final hours has remained the subject of intense debate. Nolan’s friends say he chose to stay behind on the island, while his family has questioned that account and raised concerns about inconsistencies in the timeline, Nolan’s phone, witness statements and the circumstances surrounding his death. His cause of death remains officially undetermined, although a grand jury later concluded that the circumstances were consistent with drowning and declined to bring criminal charges. With Nolan’s family now calling for a federal investigation, we take a closer look at what happened on Horn Island, the evidence, the conflicting accounts and the many unanswered questions surrounding Nolan’s death.

When 17-year-old Mackenzie Cowell failed to come home for dinner one night in February 2010, her family immediately knew something was wrong. On 11 April 2003, 18-year-old Rose Howell set out for what should have been an ordinary trip home from Bellingen on the NSW Mid North Coast. After spending the day designing birthday invitations, hand-delivering them to friends, and talking excitedly about joining a local band, Rose accepted two lifts while hitchhiking.
