"Throw a Birthday Party"
Luke 14:15-24
Every year, we say we’re going to simplify and have a family Christmas that focuses on the real reason for the season – Jesus. But every year, overspending, overeating, materialism, and busyiness rob us of our peace and joy, and rob Jesus of his rightful role as the center of our celebration. “Whose Birthday Is It Anyway?” – loosely based on Mike Slaughter’s book, “Christmas is Not Your Birthday” – will use the images and symbols often related to birthday celebrations to help us approach Christmas differently and be transformed in the process. The end goal is for worshippers to experience the peace of knowing that God is truly with us, the joy of giving sacrificially, and the love of a Savior who gave everything he had for us.
The first sermon in this series, Rev. Preston Morgan suggests that Jesus has clear expectations on how we celebrate him.
