The promise of Emmanuel is the promise of light to deliver sinners from the darkness of sin and death, a promise designed to stimulate trust in the merciful, covenant-keeping God.

Jesus reveals that a “neighbor” is any member of the New Covenant community, a status demonstrated by showing love to other members of the New Covenant community and thus inheriting eternal life.

The Kingdom of God comes near in gospel proclamation, and those blessed by God to see receive it in faith...they urgently follow Jesus at all costs.
