On today’s episode, I speak to the soon to be pediatrician, Dr Lynn Booysen, about the importance of not succumbing to the pressures of your environment, and how utilising the art of being resourceful can solve many of your perceived limitations.

During this episode Lynn reflects on what it was like growing up on the Cape Flats and her journey at medical school. Though she was not able to afford a laptop, textbooks and the many resources needed to complete her medical degree, Lynn was determined to find a way. This determination gave rise to her discovering the art of being resourceful. It also taught her the importance of kindness and building quality relationships.

Lynn also shares what it has been like being a frontline worker during the Covid pandemic and how it has been impacting her relationships.

On today's episode, I speak to Hong Kong-born, US-raised media personality Able Wanamakok. Able works across a wide range of platforms, including TV hosting, News Presenting, Emceeing and motivational speaking to name a few.

In this episode we take a peek at Able's journey, from her early life as an immigrant who felt invisible, to a successful & confident TV presenter.
At the age of 10, Able immigrated to the US and quickly found herself an outcast, since she was the only Chinese girl in her small town. In addition to this, she could barely speak English. Though these early years were difficult for her, it made her develop a unique set of skills that still continues to serve her. During this episode Able reflects on her key skills and characteristics that were born out of this challenging period.

We also speak about the role of fear in her life and career, and how she is able to remain calm and move towards her desired outcome in high pressure situations such as live TV or speaking on stage.

On today’s episode I speak to Barbara Smith about how a toxic marriage and overcoming cancer led to her reinventing herself and starting over in ‘paradise’. Barbara reflects on her life and the challenges that she faced along the way, and how these challenges woke her up to a life of greater purpose, passion and possibility.
Prior to her restart, Barbara spent 30 years living the Silicon Valley dream. She sold computers and software, raised two great kids, started and sold a company, and enjoyed the good life. A breast cancer survivor, Barbara left her alcoholic marriage in the middle of chemotherapy, got a job teaching English abroad, sold most of her belongings, and bought a one-way ticket to Thailand.
“Cancer liberated me, it freed me from the fear of putting myself first”, this allowed her to pack up and move to the other side of the world.
We also speak about her memoir, I Made Life My B****, and the impact she wants to make on others who are feeling trapped in an unhappy and unhealthy relationship or dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

July 06, 2020 Breaking Barriers, with Aaron Golub - The first legally blind athlete to play Division 1 football
On today's episode I speak to Aaron Golub about his journey and how he refuses to be a victim of circumstance.

Aaron became the first legally blind athlete to play American football in a Division 1 game when he was at Tulane University.
He was a captain in his senior year, and went on to also become an NFL free agent. Aaron never let his limited vision get in the way of his success. Aaron’s grit, determination and effort enabled him to earn a spot on the Tulane team, and the respect of his teammates, coaches and fans. Aaron began playing football in seventh grade and worked extremely hard to get where he is today.
His goal is to show others that it doesn’t matter what they are fighting or what their perceived limitations are; anything is achievable with hard work and tuning out the judgment of others.
His planning, passion and perseverance enables him to be successful. Aaron has paved the way for others with disabilities, and shown that the impossible is possible.
