In today's episode, we have two guests from U-M Medical School Financial Aid Office. Mary Jo and Tammy address the general financial aid timeline and a broad overview of the process. Dr. Amy Yorke is an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at the University of Michigan-Flint. In today's episode, you will learn more about what physical therapists do and and how to help prepare yourself for applying to physical therapy programs. Gerald and Dr. Jamye Banks explore the challenges racially marginalized students experience on campus and how students who identify within this demographic can persist through these challenges. Through different approaches Dr. Banks refers to building community, emotional intelligence, and offering perspective to students who are not of a racially marginalized community. By making space for racially marginalized students on our campus, we can re-shape their experiences at the University of Michigan.

Today we welcome Gerald Murphy Jr., our new pre-health advisor to the podcast. Gerald joined our pre-health team this January and will be a co-host with Julie for Code Maize. We wanted to take the time to introduce Gerald to the the LSA pre-health community for you to learn more about him, his advising philosophy, and journey to the University of Michigan. Gerald shares some helpful tips for our pre-health students who are new on their journey as well as for students applying this cycle. Welcome Gerald!!

For this episode, we had the pleasure to hear from two current M1 students at the University of Michigan Medical School. Devak Nanua and Piroz Bahar share their pathways to medicine as well as the importance of creating bonds with faculty and fellow students as a meaningful part of defining success as an M1 student. Join us in learning more about the University of Michigan's Medical Science Training Program (MSTP) with special guest Enze Xing. Enze is a University of Michigan alum and is currently a 6th year MSTP student. Students will hear about how to prepare for a career as a physician scientist, explore the role research plays in clinical practice, and discuss opportunities for MSTP and research for students who come from historically underrepresented groups.
