COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio school districts could begin arming employees as soon as this fall under a bill signed into law Monday by GOP Gov. Mike DeWine.

The law, as enacted, requires up to 24 hours of training before an employee can go armed, and up to eight hours of annual training. The training programs must be approved by the Ohio School Safety Center, and DeWine announced he’s ordering the center to require a maximum 24 hours and the maximum of eight hours.

Two thousand UPS workers in the Philadelphia region have signed onto a demand to raise wages after part-time employees were hit with an unannounced pay cut.

A Thursday morning protest organized by the Teamsters 623 Local union drew about 75 workers, elected officials, and organizers to the South Philly UPS complex. The Oregon Avenue shipping center employs more than 1,350 people across customer service, drivers, and warehousing, according to a union spokesperson.

Shamar Hudson, a warehouse worker getting off his shift as the rally began, told Billy Penn there wasn’t any warning from management before his pay was slashed from $19 to $15 an hour.

“We never heard it from a manager,” Hudson said. “You saw it on your paycheck and that was just that.”

UPS worker Maurice Smith found himself in the same situation. Hired at $17.50 per hour last August, he got a raise to $19 — and then this sudden drop. “I thought [the cut] was going to be $17, not $15,” he said.

A fight reportedly between a former NFL player and a worker at Newark Liberty International Airport was captured on cellphone video by witnesses, showing the bloodied employee knocked down multiple times.

Video shows the worker for United Ground Express, a subsidiary of United Airlines, confronting the other man near a baggage check-in area at the New Jersey airport just after 11 a.m. Thursday, Port Authority Police said.

The passenger was said to be improperly using a wheelchair to move his luggage around. The worker confronted the man, identified by Port Authority as Brendan Langley — who according to TMZ is a former NFL cornerback who most recently played wide receiver for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.

Three police officers in Arizona have been placed on paid leave after they refused to rescue a homeless man from drowning in a lake.

Newly released bodycam footage and transcripts show Sean Bickings repeatedly shouted for help, saying "I'm going to drown", while the officers stood by and watched.

The 34-year-old's drowning was described as a "tragedy" by Tempe city manager Andrew Ching and Police Chief Jeff Glover, following the release of 12 minutes of edited police body camera video showing the moments before his death in Tempe Town Lake on 28 May.

The officers were responding to a reported disturbance between Mr Bickings and his partner near the Tempe Center for the Arts at 5am. They denied any argument and co-operated fully with police, according to a statement by city officials.

More than a third of Americans earning at least $250,000 annually say they are living paycheck to paycheck, underscoring how inflation is taking a bigger bite out of Americans’ budgets at all ends of the pay spectrum.

Some 36% of households taking in nearly four times the median US salary devote nearly all of their income to household expenses, according to a survey by industry publication Pymnts.com and LendingClub Corp.

Actor Matthew McConaughey delivered impassioned and at-times emotional remarks at the White House press briefing on Tuesday, telling the stories of those who died in the elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and urging more action on gun control.

McConaughey, a Uvalde native, said he and his wife, Camila Alves, spent most of the past week with the families of those who were killed in his hometown. He showed pictures of their artwork and brought to the briefing room green Converse shoes like the ones that one girl wore every day that were used to identify her body after the shooting. She had drawn a heart on one of the shoes.

https://www.gq.com/story/young-thug-gunna-rico-case-update-bond-denied

Court proceedings for the colossal, 56-count RICO case against Young Thug and his YSL collective are underway in Georgia, where initial pretrial release proceedings are beginning to give us a sense of the prosecution’s approach, which includes using Thug and Gunna’s song lyrics and social media posts.

Here’s what to know from the reporting around the trial, as well as a sense of what may come next.

A police shooting could have been the case’s inciting incident. In an interview with DJ Vlad, journalist George Chidi, who covers crime in Atlanta and has reported on Thug and his associates, claimed that YSL member Big Bhris shooting a police officer “set off the chain” of events leading to the arrests. Chidi also said he believes Thug “was aware that there was legal trouble brewing, that the cops were looking at him.”
