  • Alcoholics Anonymous

Because this book has become the basic text for our Society and

has helped such large numbers of alcoholic men and women to

recovery, there exists strong sentiment against any radical

changes being made in it. Therefore, the first portion of this

volume, describing the A.A. recovery program, has been left

largely untouched in the course of revisions made for the second,

third, and fourth editions. The section called “The Doctor’s

Opinion” has been kept intact, just as it was originally written in

1939 by the late Dr. William D. Silkworth, our Society’s great

    medical benefactor.

  • Dietary supplements

Definition: “Dietary supplements are products that people add to their diet. They include vitamins, minerals, herbs, amino acids, and powders.” These products are not substitutes for healthy food but are intended to compensate for potential nutritional deficiencies.

Forms: Dietary supplements come in a variety of forms, including pills, capsules, liquids, and powders.

Important note: Manufacturers cannot claim that dietary supplements treat or prevent disease. For example, a product cannot claim that it “treats cancer” or “helps with weight loss.”

Can dietary supplements replace eating healthy foods?

Answer: No. The document emphasizes that “dietary supplements should not be used in place of eating healthy foods.” The primary purpose of dietary supplements is to fill potential nutritional deficiencies, not to replace a balanced diet.
