Welcome to the new Coffee With... AlgoMe Consulting podcast presented by Luuk Jacobs, Partner, AlgoMe Consulting. Today he is in conversation with the latest addition to our team; Paul Mullins, Partner, AlgoMe Consulting.
The EU sees the industry’s increasing reliance on technology as putting it at risk from Cyber threat and significant IT incidents. The Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), is designed to minimise such issues. DORA entered into force in early 2023. In just a few months it will apply in full, which is why we have chosen DORA as today’s topic.
Luuk and Paul answer many of the questions the industry needs to answer right now such as; What should Asset Managers do to prepare? How can they design a digital operational resilience framework? How to prepare for a regulatory inspection?
Listen to this instructive exploration of the topic. Get to grips with the five key steps your firm can take to become DORA ready on 17 January 2025. Learn why for some this is a compliance exercise, while others may need to make major operational changes.
Find out all this and more by listening to them discuss the topic of DORA in our latest podcast.

In our latest podcast we examine the news about this year’s banking crises, especially in the light of the SVB and Credit Suisse scenarios, and what the implications of these might be for the Investment Management Industry. We also discuss where the epicentre of financial power might lie in our post Brexit world, and among the current geopolitical uncertainties.
While we are publishing our latest podcast with a bit of delay, there is something refreshing in looking at our analysis a few weeks after the events as the initial furore calms, and we are able to take an objective view.
What really matters to us is to share with you our analysis and views on the fundamental trends in the Investment Management industry, and reflecting through the lenses of leadership, culture, regulation, fundamental geopolitical, organisational and technological trends.

Luuk shares his insights gathered from the industry and his own experience, on the balance between office and home working, how this impacts culture, productivity, business travel, diversity, networking and new technology.

Welcome to our first Coffee With... AlgoMe Consulting podcast of 2023. We decided recent news of the acquisition of RBC Investor Services by CACEIS was well worth talking about.
There have been similar transactions across the industry and this marks yet another milestone in the trend towards consolidation of service providers in the Investment Management industry. Therefore, it is more than likely a few pressing questions will come to the mind of those CXOs overseeing global fund operations and outsourcing their activities to service providers: What is the rationale for such transactions? What are the benefits for the entities involved? What is the impact of such transactions, for me as a client, or for the investors that my firm is servicing?
The acquisitions or mergers of service providers pose significant servicing and operational risks, which Investment Managers must mitigate and pro-actively manage.
We examine all these questions in our conversation with Parva Consulting’s Stephen O’Brien and Junaed Kabir, and we discuss how to future-proof operations when service providers are consolidating.

Stephen O’Brien, Partner & Managing Director, Parva Consulting (Dublin)

Welcome to our new episode of the Coffee With AlgoMe Consulting podcast where the topic is focused on the FCA.
The FCA has published a strategic plan for 2022-2025, and subsequently a business plan for 2022-2023, outlining how they intend to execute their 2022-2025 strategic plans. These plans reflect FCA's new approach to focus on outcomes rather than on processes, and to regulate across sectors as opposed to across segments. Why this shift in approach, and what does this mean practically speaking for firms in the investment funds industry: How should they interpret these plans? How can they adapt and prepare, especially as they operate across multiple jurisdictions besides the UK?
Guests:
James Ross, industry practitioner and former Head of Regulatory Developments EMEA and APAC, Columbia Threadneedle appearing in a personal capacity
Raza Naeem, Partner, Linklaters LLP appearing in a professional capacity

Some players in the Investment Management industry claim that we have now reached the bottom of the price war between active and passive funds. Others claim that besides more mergers & acquisitions; the renewed trend towards outsourcing of operations; the ongoing launch of ETF’s and other new products and share classes; the move towards wealth management, we may experience a period of more modest changes in the years to come. Has the wave of fundamental changes that has swept the in the industry in the recent years really passed its peak? Can we substantiate this claim, or are there new structural changes that we should prepare to see?
