Episode 106 of #CoffeesOnMeDavidQuan: Freddie Bishop is a first-year undergraduate reading History & Politics at Newnham College. Raised by a single mother in a Council house in St Albans, her journey to Cambridge has been one reliant on persevering past numerous challenges with the help of a fantastic support system. Her journey has made her see the importance of outreach and education pushing her to become a CAMbassador. Whilst attending an all girls state secondary & sixth form, she developed a passion for debating and politics through helping run STAGS Talks; a politics and debate group open to all year groups. This led her to secure best Position paper for her school at Mulberry MUN whilst also being Head of Yearbook Committee, part of the Student Council, a Learning Ambassador, and part of the Talented and Gifted scheme for performance in History.

Whilst at the Union she has been Senior Speakers Co-ordinator in Easter ‘25 securing Dr Ilan Pappe, Dr Mary L. Trump, and a few more that did not make the term card. She is currently a Speakers Co-ordinator for Michaelmas ‘25 and an Events Manager (you may notice her in the header image of Charlie Kirk’s Spectator article). She is also a Junior Editor on the Cambridge Journal of Political Affairs, the Social Media Manager for Newnham Ents Instagram, an voracious book worm with a passion for social justice, a two time Emergency Debate paper speaker, and an avid floor speech giver. In running to be Speakers’ Officer for Lent Term 2026, she aims to make the Term card packed full of things Union members love whilst also delivering new ideas and focuses.

Promising society collaborations, constructive dialogue that challenges problematic viewpoints with proven facts and ensuring that members feel comfortable to express their views at high profile events without fear of harassment through preventative measures, speakers from across the political spectrum and outside of the West, a bi-weekly feedback & suggestion forms to enable members to have their say, live performances and workshops, Head to Heads, and guaranteeing that STEM students also have a chance to hear from and network with innovators in their fields. She hopes to bring new faces to the Union by putting on events that make people want to purchase a membership card or finally use it, whilst also satisfying current Members.

☕'s on Me, David Quan 权丁文 Cambridge Union Election Special Series: Chris Lorde - Presidential Candidate

Episode 103 of #CoffeesOnMeDavidQuan: Chris Lorde is a second-year undergraduate reading HSPS (Human, Social, and Political Sciences) at Christ's College, University of Cambridge. A born Londoner and Windrush generation descendant, Chris grew up in a few places — from London to Reading, to Texas and Toronto. His diverse upbringing has given him a million and a half tales to tell, but it's also inspired a passion for social justice and challenging the status quo. He's currently the Secretary of the Cambridge Union and is running for President for the second time, having previously served as Equalities Officer before his first presidential campaign. He's also served as LGBTQ+ Officer for the Cambridge ACS, has spent multiple terms on the committee of the Cambridge University Labour Club, and regularly gets involved with societies like the ADC and Cam FM.

Chris's passion for debating, dialogue, and social justice is a long-standing one. Before arriving in Cambridge, he was the National Director of Debate for the Junior State of America (JSA), a civic-engagement organisation that formerly held the title of the largest student-led organisation in the US. While involved, Christopher led JSA's Racial Justice Task Force, which in 2020 was nominated for an American Civic Collaboration Award, receiving an honourable mention alongside projects led by names Andrew Yang and Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser. He was also an active competitor on the local, state, and national speech & debate circuit, qualifying four years in a row to the National Speech and Debate Tournament and the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions. By the end of his time in high school, Chris was ranked #1 in Texas and top 10 in the US for competitive points earned in Informative Speaking.

Those passions for debate and for justice still hold — he's given multiple paper speeches at the Union, too many speeches to count at CULC's Pints & Policy, and continues to remain involved politically at home (wherever that may be) and at Cambridge.

Episode 104 of #CoffeesOnMeDavidQuan: Jack Peters is a second year Politics and International Relations student at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He was born and raised in Bedfordshire where he attended a state comprehensive school and was one of two pupils in his year to get into Oxbridge. Despite an early interest in STEM Jack found himself unable to shake his fascination with 20th century history and politics, however many of his close friends would contend that his greatest love is the Eurovision Song Contest. His first involvement with societies at Cambridge came from his time on Caius JCR as Food and Bar officer, a job he relished in as a foodie. He is currently the Chair of Cambridge University Liberal Association, and the Debates Officer of the Cambridge Union. During his Debates term Jack has brought the likes of Peter Tatchell, the Commissioner-General of the Maldives, and Gayatri Spivak to the Union, speaking on a broad range of motions from art to electoral politics. He also delivered a gender balanced termcard. He is running to be President of the Cambridge Union in Lent 2026. Having only publicly spoken twice before coming to Cambridge he is passionate about the transformative power of debate and free expression. His Lent plan is all about building a Union Fit for the Future that reaches out as widely as possible through delivering a diverse set of quality events, an open accessible culture, and welfare reform.

Episode 102 of #CoffeesOnMeDavidQuan: Dr Henrik Naujoks is the Head of Bain & Company's Asia-Pacific (APAC) and Greater China Financial Services practices, based in Hong Kong. Henrik has more than 30 years of management consulting experience. Over the past several years, his work has predominantly focused on digital and customer-led transformations and the re-invention of the insurance industry. Within Bain he held a range of leadership positions including Global Head of Insurance and EMEA Head of Financial Services.

Before joining Bain's Hong Kong team, Henrik worked in several of their other global offices, including Munich, Dusseldorf, Zurich, Los Angeles and Singapore. Henrik is a frequent speaker at financial services industry meetings. He has been quoted in leading publications, such as the Financial Times, The Economist, Forbes.com and The Business Times. He has also been interviewed on CNBC and Bloomberg.

Next to his work for Bain & Company, Henrik acts as Chairman for an edtech company and has been dedicating time to non-profit organizations and social entrepreneurs. In 2007, the World Economic Forum selected him as a Young Global Leader. Prior to joining Bain in 1993, he held an apprenticeship in banking. Henrik studied business administration in Munich, earned his doctorate at the University of St. Gallen and enjoyed executive education on Leadership & Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. Educated at Cambridge where he graduated with a First in Natural Sciences, he joined McKinsey & Co for 7 years, enjoying accelerated promotion. He left in 2000 to pursue a career in education and authored the Education Strategy for Tony Blair. Following this, he returned to strategy consulting in Education, joining the Parthenon Group and building the largest European Education strategy practice in Europe. When EY acquired Parthenon in 2014, he led the business, building it into the fourth largest strategy practice in Europe. Amongst his client work is strategy on the largest deals in European Education, and work helping universities become financially sustainable.

Episode 99 of #CoffeesOnMeDavidQuan: Isaac Chan is a first-year music student at Clare College of Cambridge University. He is currently principal horn of the Cambridge University Orchestra, and is a designated conducting scholar for 2024-25 conducting the symphony orchestra and wind orchestra of Cambridge. Originally from Hong Kong, he started playing the horn at age 7, developing an interest in conducting through ample experience playing in orchestras.

A recent graduate from Chetham’s School of Music sixth form, he founded and conducted a student group Chetham’s Camerata, and gave his operatic debut of Hansel and Gretel at age 16 among other ambitious projects. He has conducted orchestras such as the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra, the Berlin Sinfonietta, and has collaborated with various music societies at Cambridge; at venues such as the Bridgewater Hall (Manchester), Ely Cathedral, and the Foundation William Walton on the beautiful island of Ischia。

Isaac is particularly enthusiastic about opera conducting, having recently directed a re-conception of The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni, as well as a premiere at the University Opera Society. As of 2024 he looks forwards to debuting with the Hong Kong Youth Philharmonia, Hertfordshire Opera and others, in an array of projects of stellar magnitudes. He currently studies horn and conducting with teachers at the Royal Academy of Music. He has worked with and been mentored by conductors such as Grant Llewellyn, Colin Metters, Timothy Redmond, and Sian Edwards. To enrich his experience as a conductor, Isaac started playing collaborative piano three years ago, and is now a frequently sought after accompanist for any sort of repertoire.

Outside of music, Isaac enjoys reading and investigating anything related to literature and arts, with a particular interest in Chinese calligraphy. He enjoys taking long walks, be it along the harbour of Hong Kong or in the British countryside, or simply discovering any sorts of new places – although he is equally at home curled up with a score and a coffee!

Episode 98 of #CoffeesOnMeDavidQuan: Zizheng (Tom) Wang's story is one of ambition, adaptability, and trailblazing success. Raised in a military family in China, Tom's early life was steeped in discipline and determination. At the age of 18, he embarked on a life-changing journey, traveling alone to the United States to attend the University of Maryland. His undergraduate years were characterized by a thirst for knowledge and self-discovery, leading him to switch majors four times, ultimately graduating with degrees in marketing and theatre. 

After university, Tom's career took a significant turn when he joined TikTok in Indonesia as a Strategy and Operations Manager. In this role, he demonstrated exceptional acumen in overseeing key accounts like Jd.com and Xiaomi Inc, contributing to over 10 million dollars in sales and more than 100 million views for promotional videos. He played a crucial role in a period of exponential growth at TikTok, being a part of the team expand from 50 to over 5000 individuals in just two years.

Building on his experiences, Tom is currently advancing his education and career prospects by pursuing an MBA at the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School. Raised in a military family in China, Tom's early life was steeped in discipline and determination. At the age of 18, he embarked on a life-changing journey, traveling alone to the United States to attend the University of Maryland. His undergraduate years were characterized by a thirst for knowledge and self-discovery, leading him to switch majors four times, ultimately graduating with degrees in marketing and theatre. 

After university, Tom's career took a significant turn when he joined TikTok in Indonesia as a Strategy and Operations Manager. In this role, he demonstrated exceptional acumen in overseeing key accounts like Jd.com and Xiaomi Inc, contributing to over 10 million dollars in sales and more than 100 million views for promotional videos. He played a crucial role in a period of exponential growth at TikTok, being a part of the team expand from 50 to over 5000 individuals in just two years.

Building on his experiences, Tom is currently advancing his education and career prospects by pursuing an MBA at the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School. This new academic pursuit is coupled with an exciting entrepreneurial venture. He has founded Genii Creators Agency, a bold initiative in the creator economy. Under his leadership, the agency has rapidly signed over 50 content creators in less than two months. Through Genii Creators Agency, Tom aims to revolutionize the landscape of the creator economy, bringing his unique vision and proven expertise to the forefront of this dynamic field.
